To do client-side scripting you need UCC (the script compiler) and all of our script source code. Thrax decides when that gets released for public consumption.

I just wanted to say that this really needs to come out SOON after release, if not before. I don't know what will be capable with the mutator and/or ini stuff, but I really think SOME scripting needs to be possible.

I don't think Irrational or even the beta guys can think of everything a game might need as far as scripts/binds go. Just think how far T1 came, and what if scripting was not allowed? I know not all of it was good either, but I think the good scripts outweighed the crap and cheats that came later.

If this has already been discussed, sorry, didn't see it in the first 2-3 pages.

Yes i agree, cheats are eventualy going to happen on any game anyway. Id like to be able to make a few customizations to the game to make it similar to my tribes config wich i havent changed in over 3 years.

Im on the fence about this issue. I would of course love to see all the scripts that the community can generate. But theres always the downside AKA Cheat Scripts.

But if the game has been coded well enough this shouldnt be something to worry about

Certain people just want to cheat as they have in other games. Once a cheater, always a cheater.

Rapid-fire CG?
Explain please?

According to others, if done just right, you could hold / release / hold / release the fire button for the CG in such a way that it actually shot faster. Then a script came out that did it for you, but that was right as I was moving on to T2. I never tested it but knew several T1 players who said it worked, hence my question mark.

Never heard of it... anyway, you have the speed pack for that in T:V, and even if you do pull it off the CG's just going to overheat faster. So that's not really an issue.

It was a script made by z0dd. It was not a cheat, it simply automated a process. If rapid fire was a cheat, then so was ski scripts.

The (pre-torque) engine Tribes 1 and Tribes 2 used has a serious flaw. It allows easy script-only cheats by manipulating objects through the tree(). And there were several script-only cheats: autobeacon, perma-iff, glow hacks, etc.

It was not a cheat, it simply automated a process. If rapid fire was a cheat...Totally depends on what is being automated. Auto-aim, for example simply "automates a process" as well. Not saying I disagree with you, but just saying that's a weak-as-hell excuse.

True. Thats why there are discussions about where the line should be drawn.

Hmm... and what should the client's acces be restricted to to make these cheats impossible to make? In other words, what part of the freedom that Tribes offers was abused to make these cheats?
