Challenge 08-12-2004, 08:56 PM Many a time while playing Tribes: Vengeance, I am unaware of how much health I actually have until I am near death. I am suggesting a couple of things.
1.) Instead of having the red alerts when you are hit appear on the sides of the screen, try them like in Tribes 2, all over the screen, for the player tends to be looking nearer to his / her crosshairs then to the sides of the screen.
2.) The health meter should have color indicating health. Green symbolizing Good, Yellow symbolizing Medium, and Red symbolizing Low. In Vengeance, it is all one shade of green, only light and dark, and at a glance of the eye, it tends to appear that one has good health.
Just a couple of thoughts.

IrritAnt 08-12-2004, 11:22 PM Hmm, probably should have posted this one under [Feedback], as what you're saying is there isn't enough information in the game about your current health level...
I've logged this one. I'll leave the thread open for discussion though :)
jotun 08-12-2004, 11:28 PM yeah, I HATE having the red flashes only on the side of the screen.
I had tons of trouble in UT2k4 deathmatch just because I couldn't tell when I was getting hit. T:V's don't look quite as small as the ones in ut2k4, but I'd still at least like to have the OPTION of making it the normal full-screen flash.
bartkusa 08-12-2004, 11:32 PM How about making the flash brighter or darker based on damage taken, like many other games?
In the T:V videos I've seen, people get the red-flash just from skiing and taking maybe .5 points of damage off of a bad curve.
SoulSkrew 08-12-2004, 11:44 PM I agree your health meter should change color to indicate you current status. It's much easier to discern between colors (green/yellow/red) at a glance then it is numbers or the level of the meter. As far as noticing when you're taking damage, I also often don't notice when I've been hit. I remember, though, when T2 first came out I had trouble noticing alot of things going on around me then as well because of the sounds/visual indicators being different then they were T1 but now that's all second nature. I'd think it will probably be the same with T:V, it will just take time again to get used to the new environment. That said, I still don't think it would hurt any to make it a little more obvious when taking damage; whether it be making the red flashes more blatant or maybe making the grunting noises louder.
JodoFett 08-13-2004, 12:16 AM It's easier in 04 to tell because you make noise and such when you are hit.

This is actually quite easy to edit. In your tribesHud.ini file, you can change what color the health fades to. You can make it flash on low health, or whatever you want.
WorstAim 08-13-2004, 12:55 AM really? Why didn't anyone say anything?
That Health HUD I showed was one of the earlier T:V health hud designs...I don't know why they got rid of it.
Amadeus 08-13-2004, 04:39 AM I shall repost my idea of damage indication.
I think that the red flash not taking up the whole screen is a good idea, but it certainly doesn't carry enough warning value sometimes. Making the border thicker when you take more damage would give you a pretty good indication of the amount of damage you took, and it sure as hell wouldn't stay unnoticed when you get a disc right under your feet.
