I was just watching the T:V Bittah movie with fraps on and every so often the FPS would drop to about 8. This worries me and I didnt mention it before but my Radeon 9800 PRO is only the 128 mb model (im running 1280x960) so to stop that from happening what should I upgrade?
liquidh2o 08-01-2004, 07:10 PM i think you're missing the point. Skiing is very easy to pick up initially but a lot harder to master than before.
Anyone can hit the ski key and slide around the map so at least they have an idea of the concept.
But learning to make the environment work for you is what's going to set apart the average skiier from the better ones.
The maps are small enough and the hills aplenty to make this a game of creativity/instinct when it comes to making up routes rather than something you set up and wait to execute.
Also, I think the OOB grid is an excellent deterrent for some of those crazy routes you could do in T1 where you'd start out a mile away to build momentum, and if you didn't kill the capper when he took your flag, then you had no chance of killing him.
I think people are just scraping at the tip of the iceberg currently, and it'll probably be a couple of months before we start seeing new innovations that take advantage of the new tools that've been laid out before us. All in due time.
I think I'm going to wait until Christmas before upgrading. Maybe get one item as a gift and wait for the next major price drop.
Xagothae.1 08-01-2004, 10:37 PM Just a thought, im not sure if you trust eBay, but you can find some nice prices on some of the newer cards..
9800XT was going for $150 and some were lower on bid and even the x800 was going around 300 which is good for the retail prices at this time..
the x800 is going for 400 if you're lucky...

Mr Fish 08-03-2004, 07:13 AM any fps drops to 8 are likely to be unrelated to video card. we still have little spikes during gameplay where stuff gets loaded from the hard drive when it shouldnt. these and general CPU spikes will get ironed out by the time we ship.

I was playing a beta of a strategy game and every so often you hear the "no sound here yet noise" which would generally make my fps plummit. Ima update my sound drivers.
I have both SoundMAX digital audio and Creative SB Live! series, which is better.
