:( is this what we have become?
So tommorow is August 1st...VinFox 07-31-2004, 05:14 PM :( is this what we have become? wozzeck 07-31-2004, 05:16 PM what do you mean by become Phantom 07-31-2004, 05:16 PM Sorry. I'm not going to give a date until I know exactly what it is. Nobody is well served my me pulling a date out of thin air and then rushing to meet it if we're late or holding something because we're early. So yes DarkDonut, although you're compelling "faggots" argument almost convinced me to give out a make-believe date, being vague does actually help. Thanks for your understanding. ;) Damn, would have hoped that it would be out before Assembly04(Very big LAN here in Finland, www.assembly.org . Would have been a good beta testing place... [meph]DarkDonut 07-31-2004, 05:19 PM ya know I appreciate everything they've done and I'm sure the game is going to be great, but not even speculating a date is just pissing people off at this point. As of this thread the only date we have to go on now is August 9th, so that's the new date. And seriously, all the e-knights coming to the aid of devs isn't worth it because they really don't give a shit what people say to or about them. I'm not even sure how many people just shelled out some cash to get a fileplanet account just to get the beta access, since they didn't have several hundred dollars to goto an exclusive LAN event to get the first beta. I just think a reasonable guess at a date of the next beta release isn't too much to ask. Hell, maybe just give us a report on the fixes you are making since TWars to give us some sort of view into WHY it's taking so long to release the next beta phase. Then maybe people, like myself, wouldn't have to be upset over the lack of info. Chaoz 07-31-2004, 05:25 PM We just want to play the great game we've been hearing about, ASAP :) Thrax Panda 07-31-2004, 05:42 PM DD, We actually test the builds before we release them to the beta testers, and we also have the full game to work on (the beta doesn't have all the maps for instance) and plenty of bugs from the QA team (who are really quite good at finding bugs and exploits). There are usually five or six internal builds between beta builds. Those builds tend to be less stable than the builds we release to the external testers. Understand that releasing a build for the beta testers is very time consuming. we have to make a special build. Test it in parallel with the full game, make any required fixes, re-test, and then release it. If it were a different game I might not feel the need to double and triple check everything, but the history of this game makes me feel that quality, even at this early date, is very important. I'm sure you can understand why. So we're fixing bugs (as of yesterday there no known crash or blocking bugs left in the game). We're adjusting the play balance, tweaking maps (emerald got a big adjustment for size for instance) and fixing lesser bugs as well. When we feel like we have something that the community should be testing we'll release it. Until then we continue to work. Hell, maybe just give us a report on the fixes you are making since TWars to give us some sort of view into WHY it's taking so long to release the next beta phase. Then maybe people, like myself, wouldn't have to be upset over the lack of info.Frankly people like you have had more info about the development of this game than the fans of any other game have ever had. Go ask Gabe what he's doing and see where you get. While we haven't always given you all the information you wanted, we have never lied to you. We have never said "it's almost done, it will run on a PII 200 with a voodoo 1, and riding in a transport is fun." So while you may not like my answers, and some of you may not like me, at least give us some credit for working with the community and being straight with the community as well. And I'm still not giving you a date. ;) _Kater_ 07-31-2004, 05:43 PM Comeon, Comeon. Give the boys a break. If you do things in a rush, you tend to make unnecessary mistakes, making things take longer than they'd need originally. So, dear IG gang, please do take your time. If the game ships one week later, it's no biggie. Just make the game ROCK! (and from what I've heard so far, it will....) :) WinterFreshX 07-31-2004, 05:45 PM Heh as long as the beta doesn't become another C&C Renegade or T2, I don't care lol. I sure damn wish I was in it though, oh well. And I'm still not giving you a date. ;) Thanks for the decent reply, it really does make a difference. I do understand the need for quality assurance and the need for multiple builds etc. It's difficult to not get overexcited about all this stuff when it's so close yet so far away. I just want to be able to play the beta for at least a few weeks before I have to go back to school and the way it looks it'll be very little playtime. Sorry for calling you faggots. Phantom 07-31-2004, 06:01 PM Comeon Thrax, couldn't we get an Assembly exclusive - beta? (Like the tribalwars beta);) 3*24h is much beta testing time... ;) Chaoz 07-31-2004, 06:05 PM So what do you guys tell fileplanet regarding the time they'll get it? Xagothae.1 07-31-2004, 06:07 PM GIVE ME THE DAMN BETA. oh wait, I already have it, nm. Monkee07 07-31-2004, 06:25 PM Frankly people like you have had more info about the development of this game than the fans of any other game have ever had. Go ask Gabe what he's doing and see where you get. While I would like some playtime as well before college (Aug. 23), that is an excellent point. The HL2.net forums for example get one post from Valve every month at best. Dyno 07-31-2004, 06:32 PM Few questions... 1. Does this mean that the beta released on Fileplanet will be a new build (04)? 2. Will you give us a day or two warning as to when the beta on FP begins so we don't break our fingers from hitting the F5 key too much? Ashaman 07-31-2004, 07:45 PM hey, take your time... I don't really have time to play games anyway right now Nutcracker 07-31-2004, 08:37 PM Once Doom 3 is done, T:V better be ready or IG's ass is mine. Eurus 07-31-2004, 10:00 PM Long as it's not screwed up like T2 they can take as long as they want far as I'm concerned. edit: hmm.. i didn't type screwed... :P clockw0rk 07-31-2004, 10:13 PM "sorry for calling you faggots" lol Yogi 07-31-2004, 10:13 PM Long as it's not screwed up like T2 they can take as long as they want far as I'm concerned. edit: hmm.. i didn't type screwed... :P T:V is currently more stable than T2 :) DigitalFiction 07-31-2004, 10:24 PM Once Doom 3 is done, T:V better be ready or IG's ass is mine. So you mean like now, since D3 is gold? Anyway.. TW should take bets with :twd: on the FP beta release date. Maybe it would keep some people busy for a while. | ||
