sounds like skiing got easier?

No.

Hard to go fast.

Easy to ski.

Hard to go in the direction you want.

Easy to run into walls/trees.

So you're basically saying "Skiing is easy to learn, hard to master, and while any noob can get going around it's going to take real skill and commitment to hit the mach 5 speeds we love about tribes"? sounds good to me :)

Ya, kind of.

I'm almost starting to agree with JohnnyX. It IS almost like a chore to do good/fast skiing.

Still wishy washy. I'm willing to wait a few more weeks before I make my final decision. What's somewhat discouraging, is if VETS are having problems with skiing, noobs are gonna get owned.

Need more time, more tuning.

is there anything that is good about TV ?

everytime i look, there is something new about the game, that makes it seem sucky

----------
hard to go in the direction you want ? , a seperate key for skining ?
no speed ? is there anything thats fundamental that they left, or thats actually working ?
----------
from the voice cmd's, to the physicis, seems like this game is allready full of alot of bugs/bs .. kno its suppose to be a new tribes, but gd, it seems like basic shiat is sucking ....

No, it's fun. And it's familiar. Just different.

I remember playing T1/T2 for the first time and feeling just about as noobie. Slightly less cause I'm familiar with most of the terms/gameplay elements.

Dont' confuse concerns with lack of fun. I'm having a blast! :)

No speed? I've heard it's wildly fast... I've heard many many good things about T:V. I've placed myself on the fence though, so I'm able to hear both sides. The good and the bad. I'm more concerned, as I'm sure the rest of the community is, with the bad things because we want them to be changed and become good things. If we didn't love the Tribes series, we wouldn't be doing this. Just keep looking into the game. You'll definitely find some cool stuff. I for one, and very interested in trying out the new packs/functions... seeing how the rocket pod works, the grappler, and the buckler. But what I'm most excited for is the competition with the revival of very old and reputable teams. <3 =V=, |5150|, and so on.

What are the devs responses to the skiing? It sounds like the most problematic part of the game now. :(

I'm trying to get a grasp of how it works since I haven't been able to play yet. It basically sounds like it's been said. You slide, become frictionless but with no control left or right once you're in this mode. Which sounds sour to me.
Control while skiing would be more dynamic. Then you could surf the terrain.

It's hard to keep talking about this without having played the game. When's the freaking open beta, argh.

uhh skiing physics look more realistic (actually sliding on the terrain, not hopping.)

but less easy, cant keep as much momentum going up hills (so i heard), and if you dont hold the skiiing button down you immediatly lose momentum causing your player to almost stop (in tribes1 you would still skid quite a bit)

etc other things too

i hope they tune the physics more

dunno, skiing is fun and easy for me... unless I get stopped, then it's hard to get back going from a dead stop, but the answer is that is not to fuck up

The skiing is pretty close. It does take a little adjusting to because:

#1 It feels like you are taller and higher off the ground than T1, thus you impact earlier than you are used to

#2 Pitches in the terrain have a big effect on your direction of travel. You don't have to actively turn towards the center of a bowl to garner the turning effects of it, it turns you by itself. This goes for the smallest of lateral forces though. Might need a little tweaking to maintain directional stability.

#3 Hitting the slopes at the correct angle is alot more important, and this goes back to number 1. I find myself coming in too vertical, impacting hard, and killing my momentum, or coming in to shallow, bouncing off the edge of the slope and ending up on the flat with no momentum. It's a delicate balancing act to get it just right. However, you can ski across flat surfaces, and even under the water.

It does seem that they tuned down the jetpack forces a bit though, you can remain airborne or burst upwards anything like the E3 videos.

No, everything about the game sucks. Thats why you are here on an internet forum mulling over every last detail that is released about it.

It's a chore, it's not fun or "normal". Also makes one-on-one fights extremely annoying because you cannot pay the large amount of attention required to your movement and fight at the same time, often getting slammed with discs after you land, have no momentum, and are a sitting duck. Skiing felt natural in other tribes games, you could do it without having to concentrate on it. I don't like this excuse of "Oh well it's harder to master you don't just press two buttons". It still took newbies a few months to really master skiing in T2, I don't see why that level of difficulty needs to be INCREASED to the point of not even being fun when you're a pro at it.

It's a beta.. and therefore I can't let what I'm playing now ultimately affect my final thoughts on it. I can only -HOPE- that the devs and others will take these observations by many players and study what they have to say. Defending the game and it's current mechanics with "Well it's a different game get used to it" is making it look like T2 all over again. Changes, tweaks, "Hey we did this, what do you think now?" attitudes, that's what will make T:V a community success as well as a good seller.

Actually, it sounds like your complaint is because you have to relearn skiing. You're getting messed up because you're still transitioning from the T1/T2 system to TV. It might even take you a bit longer because you need to unlearn what you know already.

A newb could pick it up faster because they don't really have anything to unlearn, they're a clean slate when it comes to Vengeance skiing.
