NextGen 07-22-2004, 07:43 AM I wanted to know how the T:V engine handles players mounting in a vehicle. I have seen the positions where players can occupy a turret and pilot. Is it at all possible to have players stand in a ship and shoot at things with their own guns like in Tribes 2?
-DtF-XandraX 07-22-2004, 08:09 AM You can switch between positions.
NextGen 07-22-2004, 09:06 AM No, I mean something like this: you just stand on a set position and shoot from there. Screenie

Theta 07-22-2004, 09:12 AM I don't know why you would want to use your own guns when you have these really big guns in front of you.

americanjoe 07-22-2004, 09:17 AM I think nothing is more satisfying than lobbing a mortar from the back of a bomber and taking out a flag capper ... no cannons, no bombs ... but I don't see that happening in T:V with its current vehicles. unless you can stand inbetween those guns without mounting them.
Theta 07-22-2004, 09:20 AM I don't see it either since cappers won't be able to get in vehicles ;) But I guess there are times when you want to use a mortar instead of an AA gun.
NextGen 07-22-2004, 09:25 AM I am asking because I am planning to bring the TAC mod over to T:V

You're forgetting.
Along with the positions in the vehicles, you can always drag a heavy with the grappler and let him lob mortars, missles or whatever!
;)
On a serious note, NGC, if you are bringing TAC over, then you can probably code how mount points work all you want. :)
NextGen 07-22-2004, 09:54 AM Yeah, I was just hoping my life would be easy :)

Unless I missed something, the grappler is a weapon. i.e., when using it, you can't use another weapon.
nazbot 07-22-2004, 01:02 PM From what I understand you can grapple something and then switch to another weapon while grappled.

You can switch off with the cable attached.
In effect you can grapple a capper, switch to your DL and proceed to beat his head in...
But he can turn around and pretty much do the same to you.

player grapple was awful in Quake 2, it will be lame in T:V if it's done in the same manner. if it is only used to slow down a player, then break free and not continually grapple that player, it might be fine. I mean .. it was funny to watch, but it had no place in the game.

AFAIK you can do this in UT2k4.
(I know, but ut2k3 has not realy vehicles)
Why not.

Hence this is why the game is titled Tribes: Vengeance, and not "Quake 4: Quake 2 Revisited."

Let's not forget that you can break the line and destroy the hook. A simple disc jump would destroy the hook thereby detaching the other player from you and give you back the lost speed.

This may be assuming too much.
However, if you managed to get over a ridge, or run the line through a tree or other obstacle, you get loose that way.

Well, there is talk about some exploit that "could be fixed if the hook is destroyed by splash damage" in a recent ss. Don't know what that is, but I can't imagine what harm can come from enabling this.
nazbot 07-22-2004, 01:35 PM I would think the grapple would HAVE to disengage when splash damage hit the hook. It seems like a nice way to balance a cappers ability to change directions really easily, as a defender could try and predict where the guys going to grapple and shoot in that direction.
