An in-deapth look at Vengeance armor design

One thing that (some) people have dismissed outright is the Zen-Samurai connection. Zen was crucial in the Samurai lifestyle. http://www.sacred-texts.com/bud/rosa/ is a good place to get indepth into why the samurai chose zen and how Buddhism marked the measure of success for the warriro caste in Japan.

I mention this because I don't think the Western-knight complex fits the DS as much as other tribes. While both the DS and BE are supposedly from the Imperial Knights, the BE (especially later in the timeline) embraces more of the stereotypical-western approach while the DS have always maintained a more pragmatic, Buddhism-balance-sort of approach. While I don't necessarily advocate a complete Asian approach, I think it bears more semblance to the DS philosophy than does any chivalrous idea.

Link me to the text where it states/is rumoured that the Diamond Sword come from Imperial roots, and then i'll believe you. Not before.

An interesting tale links the origins of the Diamond Sword to the Empire. Long ago, the story goes, the Emperor of Earth used as bodyguards a force of Imperial Knights so hard and elite that people called them The Diamond Sword. These Knights served with honor and distinction until one day a mysterious figure addressed the Imperial Court. This man, the Enlightened Master, foretold a day when the Empire would have need of a weapon in a faraway place, a weapon of surpassing hardness and strength. His words moved the Court, and the members of the Diamond Sword petitioned the Emperor to allow them to be that weapon. The Emperor agreed, and the Diamond Sword followed the Enlightened Master into the wilderzone.

i did a craptacular job coloring that one. Believe me, it looks a lot better with my digital vibrance settings. I turned it off after i finished, and holy shazbot it's ugly. :/ yeah it's ugly before i change anything, but after, OMG.
The JPG compression doesn't help things either.

i think the DS logo should be incorperated into the design of the armour shape, like youve done here (intentionally or not), the rounded shoulder pads and the long bar down his chest.

Tacky Tricky: Id like to see some different helmet designs if you have any :)

Destos: Colours are quite good, definatly go with grey, gold and small amounts of blue imo.

btw, what kind of textures does the engine support anyone know? A shiny silver (almost chrome) would work really well if its possible.

I especially like the raised effect of the DS logo on the chest of that medium drawing, Destos' colouring brought it out even more.

I think Dudshot's comments regarding the look of ut/etc was based on the head. The head there looks like alot of heads you might see in quake/ut/starcraft/etc. Neek pointed out that he's drawing them sans helmets for a reason, so I think once the helmet discussion and drawings come out then it won't look so 'borrowed'.

Great job so far, and Zo feed your light female a cheeseburger or something.

The talent in this community never ceases to freaking OWN me. Tacky nice drawings, dunce good work as always; the rest of you keep it up. I can't wait to see how this project shapes up.

While, I agree... Tac is an excellent artist, I strongly reject the idea that his design is excepted simply because he draws well. I personally like the designs, they have a Samurai/Legionaire motif going that readily appeals to me.

The above design is my personal pick for DS Light Armour. His bulk is placed well, being in his boots and upper body. I like the simple shoulder plates [With his insignia) and his Helmet is basic in design communicating the minimum needed to do the job (which is what light armour is, nothing fancy, "just enough").

This is also good, I like the helmet, but maybe more for a Medium Armour design. The concept looks bulky for a Light, and not bulky enough for Medium. I think he's too thick in the Forearms, legs and boots.

This one just doesn't do anything at all for me. It reminds me too much of a Space Marine from [Games Workshop] 40k or a Marine from UT2k3(4) . He does not follow the style of the Vengeance Armours and would look out of place among them ( http://www.phoenix-blaze.com/~sirlucius/vengeance-armors.png ) It is a well drawn (and now colored) piece of concept art though.

That latest drawing is great, but the style just doesn't feel right. It does remind me a lot of the Marine from UT2k3. With the switch to the Unreal engine, I think people are already nervous enough about this being Unreal Tournament with jetpacks.
