The new set of armor looks pretty ordinary, over the top and generally ugly. What is with the wings and the massive jets?

Tacky Tricky 06-11-2004, 03:32 AM The new set of armor looks pretty ordinary, over the top and generally ugly. What is with the wings and the massive jets? that's interesting that you would offer such a comment. on what basis do you conclude your findings? like, being "over the top" yet, "ordinary". the wings? well just tying to be original. do you have something to offer? -iA- Sass 06-11-2004, 06:03 AM Nice work. Out of curiosity Tacky, why did you decide to drop the buckled gauntlets after the first sketch? To me, it seemed to fit the fusion of east/west motiff better than the subsequent ones... which just look like plain gauntlets. It still looks good, but just a bit bland for my tastes. After a little more thought, I think thats the reason this one: http://upload.serverseed.com/pictars3/DSmed_TW003.jpg looks a little off. He still has the buckles in his shoulder pads, but little sign of the guilded/layering look up there. The chest/rib area makes him look... fat? Maybe it's the posture. I think if you put incorporated some of the buckles from the first sketch near or around the mid section it would look more dynamic. I have to say the same for the gauntlets and leg armor. They just look plain. It seems like the armor has personality around the head and maybe the chest, but the rest seems drab. I think the details in your first and second sketch were more stylish. Keep up the great work. No I don't have an armor design to offer, but I know what I like and I don't like those sets of armor. Originality doesn't always mean good. I hardly think my opinion matters now anyway, but if you look around you may find a few disappointed in T:V's armor set. starwolf_nexus 06-11-2004, 10:35 AM quit yer bitchin(Sarcasm) ur lucky they are kind enought to even listen to us....and develop the DS model... Data 06-11-2004, 11:19 AM quit yer bitchin(Sarcasm) ur lucky they are kind enought to even listen to us....and develop the DS model... Uh, for the record, neither Irrational nor Sierra have any hand in putting the Diamond Sword into T:V. They haven't done more than answer some general questions about how skins and models work with the engine. Frankly, I wouldn't mind a little guidance from somebody up top, but Thrax has made it clear that they're not devoting any development time to the tribe. They have enough on their plate I guess. Nobody said you had to like it, though I find it hard to believe you wouldn't like any of the designs at all, given how different the 3 tribes are modeled. Care to explain what it is, exactly, that you don't like about them? starwolf_nexus 06-11-2004, 12:01 PM i was refering to the complaints on tackys designs Shoddy 06-11-2004, 12:51 PM No point in spending so much time modeling the front. Wherever there's a fight to be had, you'll find the Diamond Sword running the other way, whimpering like wounded dogs.[/Blood Eagle] Nice job TT and the rest. Decided to have a go at designing a heavy armour: http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/4507/ds_heavy.jpg ( quality is poor cause i had to use my camera instead of a scanner :/ ) first sketch of him so far, i used a couple of ideas i got from tacky's designs, other things to note: -samurai style helmet with diamond embedded -sharp, diamond like points on arm gaurds -repeated, overlapping armour plates -diamond shaped knee pads comments? Colosus 06-11-2004, 01:12 PM Here's what I think... I think using this (http://upload.serverseed.com/pictars3/DSmed_TW003.jpg) design for the light. Tighten up the sleeves, make leather where there should be cloth so it isn't so baggy. Then take that design, add a bit more armor, another shoulder piece, switch leather for chain and you have the medium. No idea about heavy, but I think Tacky should finalize the light and medium and then base a heavy off those designs. I really think that armor with a few tweaks matches the T:V style and the style you want to go for with a DS armor. Colosus 06-11-2004, 01:46 PM I took the image and cleaned out some of the extra pencil marks and added some coloring so you guys could see what I'm imagining. If I had any artistic talent whatsoever, I'd redraw the parts I would like changed, but I'll just describe those... http://staff.tribalwar.com/colosus/ds_light_color.jpg I would say make the knee pads a little smaller. Mirror the design down the center of the chest into the spots on the shin guards. Shrink the forearm cloth/leather to be more form-fitting like the bicep area. Add a DS logo (not sure what one we're going with) on the shoulder plate. If all that is done, I think it'd look perfect. Falhawk 06-11-2004, 02:01 PM I think tacky's designs are totally badass. The diamond sword models traditionally seem to have a medieval theme to them rather than a samurai one though. I have taken those things in to consideration. but i still have to make it not too complicated for the CGI people. the buckles started to look a little to close to the BE light armor. and, it is his posture. and, i am lacking a lot of design in that one. just trying to nail out the shape of the armor before adding the details. Keep up the great work! only when you play them. Chame1e0n - i like where your going with this. unfortunately it's looks tooo close like the BE's design. Colosus - I am scooping what you are pooping. currently working on the light armor design and will take that into consideration. I DID read the thread, I've been following it for a while, I just see some designs that are far more samurai than I think they should be. hopefully this one is not toooo samurai for you. OK, here is the Med armor for the DS. i pretty much have taken out the eastern orient feel of it. i think the helmet will have the samurai design. http://upload.serverseed.com/pictars3/DSmed_TW005.jpg PS, i have a badass hang over right now. sooo if anything i said dosen't make any sense...well, fuck you ya blow hole! Sir Lucius 06-12-2004, 03:36 PM have you decided what kind of a jetpack he'll have? It is the medium, so it should be fairly large. | ||
