Sir Lucius 06-05-2004, 10:51 PM I'll never forget when tribes2 came out, and it was neat b/c it was a new game. Even greater was the fact that there was this huge lan party in July that would celebrate this new game.
Pre-uvalan 3 people hadn't really formed solid opinions about which maps were fun.
Siht...you know now I can't remeber if this happend at uvalan 3 or 4, but the point was there was a match between SES and z2 on minotaur and it totally redefined the way I looked at that map -- it was fun, one of the best maps from dynamix in fact.
I remeber hearing KP or someone talk about how Utopia was just an experiment and might not work out so well in CTF. Well that's all fine and good, but I hope that in the Tribalwars beta they include a bunch of these experimental maps. B/c Minotaur, imo, was a new paradigm from how CTF had been classically played in tribes. And I hope we get some more maps like that -- maps that when you play in an unconventional way, become fun.
Of course this can only be done at lan, where people are willing to try new things b/c they are so drunk.
Colosus 06-05-2004, 10:54 PM I agree. A lot of cool stuff will be discovered at the lan.
krazie0ne 06-05-2004, 10:56 PM Yep
Riavan 06-06-2004, 12:15 AM and ill... cry, because i dont live in america
I already discovered everything cool at E3. It's already all OFN.
Actually, I can't wait to see how people pick up the grappling hook. The creative possibilities with that weapon are nearly endless when coupled with the jet pack, and furthered enhanced with the speed boost on the e-pack.

Agreed. The Grapping Hook will redefine and change everything you know about movement. It took some getting used to, but now I feel naked playing T1 without one. I've seen some really amazing moves allready..

.
Sif, Sydney guys were the first to play 3 new maps.
Utopia was loads of fun, but a few people complained that the spawn points (you can capture buildings and use them to spawn at) were too close to the enemy base. Personally this didnt bother me though.
Amadeus 06-06-2004, 02:49 PM What was the other map (like)?
Santah 06-06-2004, 03:28 PM I cant comment on gameplay very much because I can barelly remember this stuff but:
There was a map that was blood eagle vs phoenix. The bases floated in the air like rollercoaster (much higher in the air though), I think there were like 3 seperate bases per team (guessing). The flag stand was on also on a floaty base thingo. The stand it self had a roof and 4 pillars at each corner (like rollercoaster's stand). In the middle of the map there were bridges going over accross a rather large river thingy, and you could ski accross the bridges fine (no ski bug like t2). Was farelly large. Cant comment on gameplay because we didnt play it very much, other than when I HO'd I used the grappling hook to lift me up to the bases in the air.
There was a snow map. Bases were blocky and on the ground and you entered from the sides (think snowblind) and had about 3 - 4 levels inside iirc. I cant remember this map very well and I might be confusing it with another, but I think the flag was in a big corridor thing (opened up to either side of the base). Gameplay was fun.
Cant remember anything about another map other than it had rocks in the middle that looked like stone henge (irl place).
Fort was the map you see alot in t:V movies. The flag stand is surrounded by pillars and archways, with a small river running down the middle. We played this map the most. It wasnt really a small map I guess, but it felt like it was because you could get from base to base very quicklly. Personally I found the map a little too bland and boring. However, in Fuel gametype it was exciting.
Utopia is the abandoned city map. The base is inside a gutted out building, and the exits are actually cracks in the walls or roof. These cracks were normally protected by force field net thingos that didnt let the enemy through. The flag was ontop of the base, its like that particular level of the building has had its front-facing wall blown out, as well as large parts of the side walls. The map is just like a city, you could tell from the radar thing that the city was devided into grids and had roads etc just like a real life city. There were gutted buildings everywhere, with walls blown out all over the place etc, and you could actually capture certain buildings which allowed you to spawn there. This met mixed reaction as using these new spawn points you were pretty close to the enemy base.
*PERSONAL OPINION. EVERYONE PLAYED DIFF DONT JUDGE OFF THIS* When capping I found it best to actually stay on the ground and use the buildings etc as cover, allowing you to stay out of site - it was very easy to lose chasers. This was great fun playing both as the capper and the chaser, it was like a cat and mouse game. One time when I was the capper, I thought I had finally shaken a chaser by doing a tricky run across some pipes and several veranders on different buildings... and then BAM there he was, managing to predict my movements. I dodged again and made a quick dash accross the ground (really close to home now) but he got me and the flag was returned. Great fun, really different for a tribes map to reward ground hugging. You could still cap the conventional way through the air but that way you were out in full site. You could use the grappling hook to swing around like spiderman on this map.
Thats all I can remember.
Amadeus 06-06-2004, 03:35 PM Thanks for the input. :bigthumb:
