triple 06-06-2004, 01:30 PM p.s. make a 2d platformer
Shoddy 06-06-2004, 01:34 PM Voice binds are not just for being goofy. Assuming teamplay is as important in T:V as it was in previous titles, players say things like "help", "take the flag from me", "get the enemy flag", etc. many times per game, so it's a legit user interface issue when you have to hold down another key. Not saying its awful, just saying that concerns shouldn't be written off as trivial once people have had a reasonable time to give the new system a fair chance.
I agree having to hold down a key to chat is counter productive. This should fall under the realm of allowed clientside scripting imo.
Mr-Lag 06-06-2004, 01:39 PM Either way, it's really not a big deal. It's the F'ing Quick chat start key after all. It's not like we announced that we're making the game a 2D platformer or something. My god, we've got a whole bunch of very positive player reviews ("I'm not going to trust anything until I see some players review it") who are almost universally ebullient, and you guys are all like, "Meh, you changed the voice binds, eeeeeeek," Yes, we changed the voice bind system. Everybody Ctrl-K.

you're a retard.
Now I will confess I felt the same way about Tribes 2's config changes. I looked at the layout card when I opened the box and went "oh noes they killed Tribes." Now I'm an ESDF man all the way. I'm open to changes like these, but I think there is a place to be concerned when so many small changes get compounded, and all of a sudden we find ourselves with an imposter of a Tribes game, masquerading with jetpacks nad trying to tag off the nostalgia in our hearts for money. That's an uber-extreme fatalistic view, I know.
It is just a key bind, it is functional. At the LAN half the people liked it and the other half didn't, it was talked about but not for long. It is not the end of tribes.
Santah 06-06-2004, 06:30 PM you're a retard.
Funny I say the same thing about you.

Done. Santah, I have no idea what I was supposed to "bite". I did play T:V at E3 and enjoyed it. Can't wait to play it again at Tribal-Wars.
KineticPoet 06-06-2004, 06:47 PM are cap limits higher or even present anymore? I dont like the sound of low cap limits + ease of capping ¬¬
Right now there aren't any cap limits, but we just haven't set any yet,
KP
The only cool thing about this thread is mojojo
KineticPoet 06-06-2004, 06:52 PM seriously though I think ^ nailed it when he said its more of a "we change it because we can", because that's kinda what im seeing. Why did you mess with ctrl-k? What was the design concern with that?
It's not instant suicide anymore. It's "view my command screen and choose a new respawn area if I want to, or press a key to cancel." The current binding for this is (rather arbitrarily) the B key.
It's still fast though. Respawning takes the same number of keys (instead of CTRL then K you can press B then 1 to respawn at your first spawn area),

So experienced players will likely memorize the respawn areas and go "B 1" or "B 2" and so on, based on which spawning ground they want to go to. Is that right? Just two keys to hit one after the other. No mouse movement, no menus that need to be fiddled with?
Santah 06-06-2004, 07:01 PM Correct.
You can also physically click on the spawn point with the mouse, but yeah obviouslly using the keys was faster.
