I've read the series about twice now, but yes, God Emperor is incredibly boring :P I've read all the surrounding (non Frank Herbert) books as well, some of which are also pretty good.

Any one else see the irony of "Stilgar" posting in this thread :P

I played the Westwood Dune II game - bit like CnC, but I actually preferred it :x Still got it spread across a couple of floppies somewhere <3

You all realise there was a dune mod up for T1 right?

The setting?
Blake Hutchins universe?
Nah...A couple of "families" leave trying to make their own worlds and are pursued by the Emperor? What subtle machinations can be achieved when you have no characters to speak of?
An empty cast of thousands... ;) And that covers Starsiege Tribes and Tribes 2.
As to T:V, Juilia may change that, but I wouldn't hold my breath that a epic science fiction series is about to be borne from the game.

Maybe these (http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/fiction/repository/firetruce_era/prophecy_of_tears_chapter _2_triad.php) sorts (http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/fiction/repository/starsiege/jaguars_hunt_chapter_3_co l.php) of machinations (http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/fiction/repository/firetruce_era/prophecy_of_tears_chapter _2_fury.php)? Or perhaps (http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/fiction/repository/starsiege/necessary_delay.php) these (http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/fiction/repository/firetruce_era/prophecy_of_tears_chapter _4.php)? Maybe some (http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/fiction/repository/firetruce_era/prophecy_of_tears_chapter _1_ghost.php) happened (http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/fiction/repository/firetruce_era/prophecy_of_tears_chapter _3_renn1.php) during (http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/fiction/repository/firetruce_era/prophecy_of_tears_chapter _3_triad.php) the various (http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/ftera/firetruce/third.php) firetruces (http://www.tribesroleplayers.org/ftera/firetruce/fourth.php)?

Obviously you're a little behind on your Starsiege, Tribes and Tribes 2 lore. TW is hardly the place for remedial instruction in Starsiege and Tribes Universe background literature so I'll not attempt the feat in earnest, but needless to say if you think there are no characters around which intrigue and political machination revolve in this franchise then you've never gone past scratching the surface.

There are quite a few ignorant voices who would like to claim that the background materials are pointless and don't contribute anything to the game. I tend to leave those folks to wallow in their delusions. Do not however, try and assert that those materials are lacking in political intrigue or intra-character conflict. That's an argument you just won't win.

When I was told that the game is more akin to a sport like soccer I stopped trying to fit in into any indepth backstory.

You silly tit. Dune2 came before C&C, so C&C would be a bit like Dune2 :P It was the original, and still the best IMHO, RTS Westwood have done.

Dune2000 was Dune2 with RA style graphics and gameplay (missions, etc). I can send it to you if you want.
