i think the gunboats have this attack of the clones feel, only smaller

Holy shit! There should be a new class in T:V that can use force powers. That would be fucking sweet.

Yes, they are post Scattering (or Seeking as the Honored Matres called it).

I got one-upped there ¬¬ Must re-read the series to regain ultra-nerd status :cat:

No similarity.
None. Tribes is not about politics, unless you refer to e-pensi swinging.

It's only because I'm on my first time through and have read most of them recently. I'm 1/3 of the way through Chapterhouse.

Could always have a look at that Emperor of Dune game Westwood did. Sure it's an RTS but it has plenty of weapons and vehicles to look at and possibly use (for a number of factions).

Just a thought.

If you haven't read the whole series, I suggest you do. I'm about 1/3 of the way through Chapterhouse. If God Emperor bores you to tears like me, don't worry, because Heretics of Dune (the next book) rocks and Chapterhouse is looking to be the same.

Hmm... I must be the only person who really like God-Emperor (I even thought it was the best book in the series).

Oh yeah, stay away from all the stuff that Frank Herbert's son wrote... it's terrible and an insult to the original books.

I didn't hate it. It just seemed like a lot of pages where very little happened. Perhaps I missed a deeper social commentary. I'm sure I'll read it again eventually.

Categorically Incorrect. Tribes is Space Opera, and therefore very much about Politics.

You'll be fighting in an arena as the heiress to the throne. How much more political can you get? :)

As for Brian Herbert's books... I gave away Butlerian Jihad earlier this year. I just couldn't stand the direction he was taking the thing: sounded like he was trying to write a movie script as a novel.

And the mod, well:

I wouldn't mind having The Weapon and The Charge as a heavy's pack/weapon combo. ;)

Yogi, you might not wanna read that part just yet.

Stilgar: The Empire (the Starsiege/Tribes Empire) is all about politics, at any rate. Empires usually are.

There's also a fair amount of Machiavellian machinations among the Tribes, but most of it is overshadowed by the casual warring and such.

If you're the Blood Eagle, you don't really have a lot of time to worry about having a nutball leader like Konovalev (or whatever his name was) if you've got Starwolf and CotP to grind into paste.

Actually the BE have to choose whether or not to continue following their nutball leader Konovalev or the recent upstart Fury who has swayed a few Orders to her side. It might help the decision to know that she wears an eye patch made out of some unlucky guy's "manhood" after he lost a duel to her or something like that (at least that's her story and she's sticking with it).

Dune is very much about the machinations behind or within the scene, while Tribes is all about the cap/kill. The "subtle factor" in Tribes is significantly lower.

ok...so make a Dune mod and include the cloak pack :P

Tribes is all about the cap/kill.

Again incorrect. You're confusing multiplayer gameplay with the setting. The setting of Tribes supports the same depth of political intrigue that Dune supports.

The only way to properly delve into such depth would be thru an adventure/action game (think old school Sierra Games). It is an interesting premise, but few people here would be mature enough to play it.

THought process:

14 yr old: Uh oh, this game makes me think and sutff
13 yr old: yeah man it does, this shit is not the rad. c'mon dawg, lets go play CS
14 yr old: yeah bro, btw, i'm gay
13 yr old: so am i, that is why we are playing CS

The setting?
Blake Hutchins universe?
Nah...A couple of "families" leave trying to make their own worlds and are pursued by the Emperor? What subtle machinations can be achieved when you have no characters to speak of?
An empty cast of thousands... ;) And that covers Starsiege Tribes and Tribes 2.
As to T:V, Juilia may change that, but I wouldn't hold my breath that a epic science fiction series is about to be borne from the game.

oh come on, how was that T2 single player not epic?
