Otherwise, it just flashes when someone spawns in that zone.

No, you can bind yourself to a spawn point two ways-

Using the command hud to select your spawn point, or going to a spawn tower/rover and pressing 'F' to designate that as your regular spawn spot.

Interesting. Where was all this info originally posted anyways? This is the first time I've heard of a spawn tower.
