Ok guys, im getting a new cpu before T:V comes out, so i gotta know, whats better ATI X800 Platinum or GeForce FX6800 in overall performance. Money is not a concern, just straight performance, which will run better.

Well ATI and NVIDIA don't make CPU's, so I guess you're outta luck there.

Either card will be overkill for T:V. Get whichever one you want.

actually, if you want to run Aquamark Benches all day go for nvidia instead.

If you want to play actual games ATI wins.

lol $600 for a GFX card, umm no thank you. I'd rather get myself a laptop that I badly need for college.

ATI Radeon X800 XT

Pros:
Very fast
Cons:
Doesn't support Shader Model 3.0
Bottom Line:
Although it lacks Shader Model 3.0 support, the Radeon X800 XT offers great performance, leading nVidia by a nose. Its lower power draw also means that it should run with your existing power supply.

nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
Pros:
Very fast performer; support for DirectX 9's Shader Model 3.0
Cons:
May require a new power-supply
Bottom Line:
A very capable GPU that can go toe to toe with ATI's latest and greatest.

i actaully would wait and see. Right now, the x800xt is better, but the 6800U has much more potential then the x800xt in terms of architecture and raw power. It would not surprise me at all if one or two driver releases come and the 6800U ends up dominating the x800. I would wait a month or two and see what will become of them.

Also, it would be better to wait and see what mid-range cards ati and nvidia come out with. Just imagine if nvidia pulls another g4 4200/5900xt or if ati pulls a 9500 pro.

The x800xt platinum edition pisses all over the 6800ultra. appart from at low res with no aa or fsaa.

P.S. DON"T TOUCH ATI CARDS! Stick with NViDiA!
ATI's have a problem with over heating.

how do ATI's overheat when they're drawing less power then those nvidia vacuum cleaners?

Only way I can see that is if they skimp on the heatsink fan. (less power draw because the fan isn't using much), which could concieveably produce the alleged overheating as a side effect.

Though I have yet to see anything in a review of the cards to suggest they have a cooking problem.

Even if they did, any competent comp geek would rig a fan or two and correct the problem, if they still wanted to use the card. (and the hard core modders would probably create a new heatsink setup for it... or a micro water cooling setup... or something".

Damn, that may just be the problem my laptop is having at the moment... I can't work on it anymore without having a fan pointed straight at the back of it, and this is a ATI Mobility RADEON 7500. Hmmm...

I suppose with better cooling on a new desktop, I wouldn't get the problem. My money's on the ATI X800.

do you work for nvidia or are you just a fanboy? ati has owned nvidia flat out for the past year, no contest. I've stuck with nvidia since the original geforce, but anyone sane knows ati is clearly superior atm.

This is why I've decided on a x800 type card for my new box... Now if only the price would come down a little.

Um not really, in my old case I had horrible ventilation and no fans running to keep anything cool, and my ATi card ran like a pro.
