I doubt that the Burner will deal out so much damage that a medium cannot run through a wall of normal shots and the resulting burn area without dying. Sure, the medium will probably take quite a bit of damage, but he'll still be kicking when he gets to the other side. If the Blaster bounces, then the medium spawner has another weapon at it's disposal that can get to the spammer without endangering the spawner too much.
Even if it takes 2 heavies working in close coordination to completely seal an opening... the bases that have a single route in and/or out of the gen area will probably be few and far between (with the exceptions of beginning mappers' maps). Thereby necessitating at least 4 HO to seal the gens off... and thats close to half the team, with current thinking in team sizes (8-10) Even with 12, you have a third of your teamtied up as rape HO, ineffective at clearing little stuff like deployables. Leaving 2 LO/capper, and 6 D (or some combination of 8 more people).
If 6 D cannot "cluster" defend against 2 or 3 LO, then they were probably goning to lose the map anyway.
Granted though, having 4 people spamming away in each base's gens could make for a sucky pub...
