BodyBag 05-19-2004, 05:49 AM The grappling hook is not for pulling, it's more for swinging. This does not mean that you can't use it for pulling. And in that you can sit there and hang from a ceiling and snipe if you choose too (as the grappling hooks continues holding unless you make a rapid change in direction, or b: click the mouse again. Which means it does continue holding if you switch weapons.) Also, as long as we're on notes, the grappling hook at this point does not grab onto other players and latch you to them. Whether or not this will change, I don't know, but I'm pretty happy with that, although my dreams of water-skiing in tribes are forever crushed. However, if it does change, it is definitely not an easy feat to grab someone with them unless they're just standing still.
Matowa 05-19-2004, 05:53 AM What about vehicles... can u latch onto 1 and get pulled around?
BodyBag 05-19-2004, 05:54 AM No, Not to my knowledge. But I will find out for you.

These are the kind of posts that set you off as a "true" member (which is a bad thing). Browse for a while and pick up some standard posting ettiquet (sp?). One of the primary rules is no acronyms longer than four letters, and no talking like a 12 year old girl on IM.
Amadeus 05-19-2004, 09:24 AM What about vehicles... can u latch onto 1 and get pulled around?
Yogi tried it with a pod, but the rope broke immadiately. The devs say that you can grapple onto a rover and ski around behind it though...

According to the E3 videos, it does.

I don't remember any of the vids taken at E3 showing this... which one did I miss?
I did see this though in some of the gameplay footage released on IGN and other sites. The devs said that the E3 build was a bit out of date, so that might be the solution...
1) You can latch onto other players
2) You can latch onto vehicles, though some better than others
3) You can remain 'attached' to things you grapple so long as you dont release it or something 'breaks' the line - so theoretically you can just hang there.

Even in Cols review:
Grappler
The grappler is another new weapon to Tribes. It is less of a "weapon" and more of a movement modifier. While you can use it to grab enemy players and slow them down a bit, you'll end up using it mainly for swinging around the maps or changing direction by grabbing something at an angle. I found this weapon to be quite fun and had it in my capper loadout by default. This was definitely a great addition.
Amadeus 05-19-2004, 11:29 AM I guess Perrin was wrong then...?
I played it. I latched onto other players. it is possible - although tough and relatively inneffective.
