nSpectre 05-18-2004, 05:39 PM Is it possible for a mapmaker or a modder to get the engine to produce more than one gravity source?
For years I've dreamed of creating an "indoor" map whereby you exit your base and look up... to see the enemy exiting their base waaaaay above you. Your ceiling is their floor.
If you jetted as high as you possibly could you would barely make it through a level of no grav, then find yourself plummeting towards their base.
Musashi discovered he could take multiple instances of a T1 landscape and invert them in various ways to create, for example, a snow-bound cave. But it was just lacking the multiple gravity wells.
Rendezvous With Rama, anyone? :D
Mecca 05-18-2004, 05:46 PM Almost sounds like the battle room in Ender's Game.
edit: I really like the idea.
VinFox 05-18-2004, 05:47 PM I don’t see why you wouldn’t.. if u got a hold of the engine itself.. modding it I’m not so sure about though...
You could do this in Unreal. Something about zoning or something. I'm sketchy on the details. Though I have no idea if this will carry over to the Vengeance Engine.

Yeah, but with gravity..
You can do it in T2 with physical zones.
sdest 05-18-2004, 07:09 PM yeah theres some maps like that i've seen, pretty neat looking and fun

Yeppers. Someone mentioned Ender's Game in another thread and that's what reminded me about it. This is going to rock. :roller:
Also, stumbled across this...
www.rendezvouswithrama.co m wheeeeee! :bigthumb:
Plasmatic 05-18-2004, 07:27 PM You can do it in T1, but it takes some fancy coding (impulsing players many times a second).. Not really worth it..
enDless_Delirium 05-18-2004, 09:12 PM heh, I see my comment about the enders game battleroom is growing. Soon maybe an actual mod :)
Remember, the enemy base is DOWN! (Bean rocked btw :) )
I do believe it's possible in the Unreal engine, but not fully sure. Though for a true Ender's Game scenario you'd need gravity only in the locker rooms (where the inv stations would be) and then none in the actual battle-room itself. Lots of grappling to get around too.
Damn, please say this is possible!
Rigel 05-18-2004, 09:57 PM Silly engine, gravity is for kids.
Beren 05-18-2004, 10:05 PM Sounds like a bit of fun
Got Haggis? 05-18-2004, 10:34 PM i'm fairly certain one of the maps that won the Make Something Unreal contest did something like this.....basically the 'room' was the inside of a ball...but you could run around on the inside of the ball in a straight line and not fall.
Theta 05-18-2004, 10:41 PM That would be freaky. Look up, fly really high, flip over, then fall on what was the ceiling.
nSpectre 05-19-2004, 03:44 AM I want to make a map outta this --

:ftardkill
[meph]DooM! 05-19-2004, 03:46 AM there was a SiN multiplayer map like that.. i think you went through portals that set you on a different side of the map, it was a blast
Mr_Unlucky 05-19-2004, 06:51 AM Sounds fun, but it would look kinda weird since there aren't any animations for that kindof movement.
You would have to tell the engine which way was down and rotate the player in that direction
Amadeus 05-19-2004, 11:47 AM Would be a nice addition to Xtremeski maps too... hit the right route and enjoy a wild gravity ride!!! :blueblob:
