this grapple sounds pimp.
Oh, it is.

Yogi was pulling off some of the sickest grapple moves at E3

He had this one move on Spiridian where he jetted over the flag-room going fast, grappled down on the top of an arch, swung 180 degrees and through the arch, lets go and grabs flag. it was pimp.

I also pulled a move bouncing off the OOB grid, grappling a pole and swinging high-speed back into the OOB grid, then bounced mach 10 into the structure in the middle of Fort and killed myself. sure, it accomplished nothing, but it was damn awesome. it also angered Thrax, who wouldn't let me take a screenshot of my ragdoll-physics body lodged in solid concrete and quickly clicked me back into respawning.

I can't wait to get my hands on the grapple. In Quake 2 CTF (considerably different, i know, but bear with me), I used to love going whole games using nothing other than grapple and getting the most caps. I turned grappling into an art form.

Seems to me the grapple cable will be similar in use to the Translocator in UT, but much much, MUCH cooler. I certainly cannot wait to master its use. I guess I'm an addict to these kinds of bonus items. With T1, I became a Scout addict or even more enjoyable, piolting and LPC/HPC over someones base and sky diving some HO down from the clouds...Nothing scarier than 4 heavies droppping from the sky shooting mortars at your defense.

yeah, the grapple looks like it is definately going to change the way cappers (and thus chasers as well probably) play the game.

Can't wait for the arguments between "purist" cappers and those who use the grapple.

Also divides up the LD/MD more. Now we'll have

-Sniper
-General Chaser
-Grapple Chaser

Though I don't think we've seen anything until we get a video of a heavy grappling around a map. Can heavies even grapple around maps?

They only similarity is that they're both used for transportation. Other than that, they're vastly different.

The translocater is cool, but grappling hooks > *.

so if a pole had a circumference of 1 meter (radius of 10 CM) you could do a 360 degree turn+ a little bit because the little end of the rod would take some distance to hit so you could do a 360.000000001 degree turn.Sopo, it doesn't wrap. It clips. The math to make it wrap is somewhat excessive for our requirements, so we just made it clip thru the object.

But it would allow what he is describing if 180's work?

Is it ugly? How much does it clip?

You won't notice it much because soon after it clips it'll either release or, if it is a small object, pass thru it.

If the pole's radius is 0.5 m than the line breaks when your exectly on the opposite side of the grapple point (I think that would make a 180° turn at best), with the degree and the radius being inversely proportional to each other. If it's smaller, you probably won't notice because the line wouldn't lose that much length even if it wrapped. In fact, you can just pretend it wraps and be happy :)

wrapping would've been cool. add wrapping with an expansion pack :)
