I'm not buying this line.

If it's a "totally new game" why call it tribes? Just to sucker us for money?

Did halflife drasticly change it's physics between one and two? Did Max Payne? Did tomb raider? yes on tomb raider for it's latest incarnation, but that's why I can now buy it used for 10 bucks.

Why do the devs of the tribes games feel it's so important to change the physics for every sequel? Learn from dave. Give us the T1 that kept a loyal following for 6+ years.

The physics is not what made the game "Tribes"
The fact that it stood out compared to any other game if what made it tribes.

With jetpacks and weapons such as mortar, chaingun and the disk launcher (spinfusor), there is still tribes.

From what i see, vengeance has the main elements the other tribes had:
teamwork
the weapons
jetpacks

that is what tribes is, its not all physics.

"I really don't like the idea of a new Star Trek. I mean, where's Kirk? Where's Spock? You can't possibly improve on the original!"

"I really don't like the sound of Deep Space Nine. I man, where's the Enterprise? Where's Picard? Where's Riker? You can't possibly make something different and make it good!"

"I really don't like the idea of Star Trek Voyager. I mean, the characters we've seen so far in photos or read single paragraph descriptions of seem two-dimensional. I mean, where's Odo or Captain Sisko?"

"I really don't like the look of Enterprise... Looks like they're going to change everything..."

My point here is that every one of the Star Trek series, while different, added something new and unique to the Star Trek universe. Everybody's got their favourites (I know I do), but ultimately every series expanded on the idea of the whole. There was some re-interpretation, some re-writing of past histories (why do Klingons now have bumps on their heads?) but as part of the whole each series contributed.

I know every time a new series was announced I would jump up and down in excitement and anticipation. What would be different? Would it be any good? And always I was pleasantly surprised.

The design ideas for T:V aren't made arbitrarily or by rolling a die and consulting an astrological chart. They're made following a great deal of skull-sweat and then tested, tested, tested. And there's more testing and tweaking and tuning to be done, and more feedback to be garnered with equal value placed on the feedback from vets and noobs alike.

Our goal is not to make Tribes 1 or Tribes 2, or a game that matches the expectations or demands of a few.

Our goal is to make a game that is fun.

(The only time I've really had my expectations shattered is when I first saw Star Wars Episode I, and that wasn't because it didn't seem like Star Wars, it did - it was because it was a giant steaming choad of a film...)

Those who played against the IGA guys at E3 basically think you're on the right track.

Whay thank you Yogi :) I know there's a lot of work to still be done, and I get owned all the time during in-house testing, but the game is already a lot of fun... :)

(Actually the ranking usually goes Russ>Designers>Artists>Programmers whenever we test-play. I'll probably get my arse kicked for saying so too :))

Then why did most people hate Tribes 2 when it was released (the physics part)? Im not saying that i dont like Tribes 2, I play both Base Arena and Classic CTF, but that physics are an important part of Tribes as much as any other feature.

Of course, KP is good, very good. But he doesn't seem to WAIL ON MY ASS with as much persistence or pleasure as Russ does.

Bugs
Built in Happymod
CD Check
Unrealistic system requirements
Horrible gameplay (overpowered turrets etc)

OMG Star Trek has so gone downhill. WHAT are you saying?

All of the people who kept the great bird's vision aloft after he died have left. Rick Berman never had the narrative vision to see the franchise through its shortcomings. Once Jeri Taylor was out, good storytelling went with her.

With Berman at the helm, the political commentary of Star Trek went from futurist progressivism to tow-the-establishment-line apocalyptic determinism. Enterprise had plots that fed right into the latest neocon news headlines. Star Trek has gone from reflecting the best in our future to echoing the propaganda of prevailing power forward in its accomodationist tales.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself for failing to indict this dramatic decline and being complacent as Star Trek has ceased to be Star Trek.

*shrug*, i don't absolutely whore this forum, but i can't recall ever seeing a reasonable explanation in any of the threads for any of the differences except maybe a line or two from KP.

I know this quote has already been addressed, but I wanted to add a little to this and kind of go off into a tangent.

I am simply amazed at and grateful for the great volume of posts that we receive here in TW's TT from IGA and Vivendi. These people do not have to visit TW or post at all, they do so on their own will. I cannot recall any other recent game that receives so much attention from makers and producers of it in community forums (feel free to correct me on this). Sure, there are posts by Thrax and some others are just funny or sarcastic but still there lies much information about T:V.

One of the main reasons I stopped following the development of HL2 was because of sheer silence from the Valve staff and unwillingness to keep the community reasonably and accurately informed. I feel that forums dedicated to that game keep recycling old rumors and theories just to keep boards alive because there isn't anything else to really talk about except after E3's and last year's code leak. Nobody that I know of from either Valve or Vivendi regularly takes the time to post in community forums for HL2. Gabe posts on HL2.net maybe once every 4-6 months. I'll probably end up buying the game once released, but I sure won't bother with it until then.

Posts can be found here every day from at least one soul with a red title. Not all questions/issues may be fully addressed, but I appreciate the solid support and dedication from the makers and producers of T:V and I'm looking forward to testing it in open beta.

Look, I've played T1 for so god damn long I don't want this game to be exactly the same.

I wouldn't listen to Musashi apparently the only thing he's good at is flash. :|

* Minedisc wouldn't make much sense to a new player, when you pick up Bf42 you don't try to throw mines at the enemy and then shoot it midair with your no.4. Instead of minedisc there is the Buckler.

Just to get this in here, the SP campaign was supposed to teach new players critical skills involving Tribes-type gameplay. I'm not sure that's the case anymore, because a lot of the old Tribes skills are gone or changed.

Jeesh man, I don't think they need you to defend them, as you do in every single post you make. They're quite capable of that on their own, as we've seen.

Get back in your "Happy happy joy joy" world. Heh.

Then I'll really be impressed.

I was under the impression that TW was suffering a sarcasm shortage. I was just trying to help.

kinda ironic considering u were  the first 3 pages of this thread. r your feelings hurt by internet teenagers, that your only defence is sarcasm? here's a lolypop.
