Colosus 05-16-2004, 07:20 PM TribalWar's official Tribes: Vengeance review is now online. I tried to cover everything I could remember, but there is a lot of information. Hope you enjoy it. Check it out Here.

Speed Pack
The speed pack was quite a surprise. Not for the running ability (which was nice inside the base), but more for use with the burner. Irrational ended up being full of turtling pansies, so having the speed pack with the burner to go clear their base was very nice. You could do a lot of damage before you died.

;-)
Ixiterra 05-16-2004, 07:21 PM This is a very good review. (1st)
Colosus 05-16-2004, 07:22 PM It is 10 pages. You did not read it in 1 minute.
Beren 05-16-2004, 07:23 PM * Beren reads.
Chaoz 05-16-2004, 07:24 PM Will the new video come soon?
Hurricane Harold 05-16-2004, 07:24 PM 10 pages? I see why it took so long to write.
I shall commence the reading.
Colosus 05-16-2004, 07:25 PM Will the new video come soon?
I'll be working on that tonight and tomorrow. I should have some done by tuesday. There will be multiple movies covering different parts.
Searagemor 05-16-2004, 07:39 PM So packs have their own energy, but weapons use your suit's?
Colosus 05-16-2004, 07:40 PM So packs have their own energy, but weapons use your suit's?
Correct.
Aestis 05-16-2004, 07:42 PM The jump pads are simply small circles that you can place on the ground and use them to start a boost of your run or to get higher in the air (depending on the angle you hit). The boost is not exponential from what I could see and from what Thrax said. So that means no matter how fast you hit it, you値l only get a certain speed increase.
For instance, if I知 traveling at 50kph and the jump pad gives 5kph boost, I値l be going 55kph. I would like to see it with an exponential increase; perhaps of 50%. So if I知 going 50kph and it gives a 50% increase, I知 now going 75kph. But if I知 going 100kph, I値l hit it and go 150kph. I think this would make it more useful for experienced players and newbies alike.
Looks like you failed math class there DeWald. That's not what exponential means. That's a completely linear relationship. Newspeed = 1.5 * Oldspeed

No, I just couldn't think of a better term. Got one? I'll change it.
Aestis 05-16-2004, 07:46 PM You guys lost to the dev team? That is horrible.
thanks for the review
regarding performance, did you notice any of the machines using anti-aliasing or ansiotropic filtering?
If so what settings etc
Aestis 05-16-2004, 07:47 PM No, I just couldn't think of a better term. Got one? I'll change it.
I just did, it's a linear relationship ;)
Colosus 05-16-2004, 07:49 PM I just did, it's a linear relationship ;)
:-\ Fine. I don't like that term, but I'll change it. And you would have lost too Stu. So pffftth
Aestis 05-16-2004, 08:09 PM Linear just means it's a straight line.
What I think you thought you didn't like:
Constant relationship
New speed = Old speed + x
What I think you meant:
Linear relationship
New speed = Old speed * x
(In your example, x = 1.5)
What you said but didn't mean:
Exponential relationship
New speed = Old speed ^ x
There, we are settled
RegisteredFruit 05-16-2004, 08:11 PM Burner
...Instead of simple splash damage, it does damage over time as a person runs through the firestorm. A good use for this is to simply spam your own flag with the weapon and when a capper comes through, they will catch on fire and have continual damage for a few seconds.
wtf?
Dark|Dragon 05-16-2004, 08:12 PM Nice review Colosus, very constructive. I have a lot of faith in the dev team and it seems like they only have small tweaks to make.
Danny 05-16-2004, 08:14 PM Good stuff Col
