El Mariachi 05-07-2004, 08:30 AM anyway what i should have started off saying was that since xapz's goal is to get in shape- you shouldn't focus how fast you can run ONE mile- you should at least run for a half hour. If you're out of shape 13 minute miles are 'ok' as long as you keep pace up and can jog at that speed (i can't, i have to go faster), 10 minute mile is fine because your focus is on cardio. At least should be.
If you're really out of shape make the warm up/cool down take 5 minutes each and have the actual jogging just take 20minutes
retard 05-07-2004, 08:35 AM In 3 months? I'd say 6-7 minutes.
and you shouldn't be worried about ONE mile in X amount of time...
You should be more worried about making sure you spend at least a constant 20 minutes running NOT including your warmup and cooldown.
And you need to do this a minimum of three times a week.
edit: well fucking shit El Mar
{FSC}Godfather 05-07-2004, 08:53 AM If you need to do cardio after losing so much weight and I will assume your joints are not in the best of form, id look into low impact stuff instead, Rowing is the fucking shit. Will burn a lot more calories, and get a total body workout.
piotrr 05-07-2004, 08:55 AM What about swimming laps?
{FSC}Godfather 05-07-2004, 08:57 AM Anything low impact would be best, again I am just guessing but if you were overweight for a long time your knees are not too good, why risk hurting them unless you need to run a mile for something.
I was a linemen for 10 years so I do not run anymore, my knees are too messed up from it. Rowing is just what I do because it does not hurt my knees at all ( if done properly)
But ya look into low impact stuff man, would help you a lot more long term. Leave the running and wear and tear on the knees to the lil guys.
NoGodForMe 05-07-2004, 09:53 AM Agree, running takes a toll on the knees. I've run two marathons, had both knees operated on, and now I can't run but a few miles. I miss it.
I'd say 8 minutes is a good time after 3 months.
If you can visit a gym, and use the eliptical machines, train on them, because it's less impact on your knees. Only problem is it's boring.
dooster 05-07-2004, 09:55 AM my fastest mile in a race was 4:34. but i trained for several monthes to get that time.
when i was fat a 730 mile wasnt that bad.
JuggerNaught 05-07-2004, 09:58 AM there is no specific time if you are trying to get in wait. Run a mile...hard and as fast as YOU can. That is your starting point. Try to make that time lower. Military standard is something like 7 minutes a mile for the average joe
but i would also agree with the others. running is high impact. 'power walking' would probably do you just as good if not better for losing weight and getting in shape and wont tear your knees up
WarAngel 05-07-2004, 10:06 AM how old are you Xapx... cause that affects goal setting
ferret 05-07-2004, 10:14 AM I'd run somewhere around the 5 range...though I wasn't a very fast runner I definately did better in the longer mile (over 5) than most. In the Marine PFT my best time was a 17:10 3 mile, which was 3rd best in the battalion.
The PFT before, I was shattering all my times and I had to shit soooooooooOOOO bad I saw an outhouse at the 2.2 mile mark and I jumped in there and did my business, still got below 18 :)
ICFire 05-07-2004, 10:20 AM 6 min is good
Stage01 05-07-2004, 11:16 AM I am in shape, but not a great long distance runner I can do it in 6 minutes.
being your size, if you can preety much keep up a steady jog you should be able to hit it in 8
how old are you Xapx... cause that affects goal setting
22
JuggerNaught 05-07-2004, 11:27 AM 6 min is good
if your in shape. if you're starting to run, you'll have a stroke at about the 100 yard mark doing a 6min mile
P Masta Flex 05-07-2004, 11:29 AM I run a 5:58 mile
if you cant do it in under 10 mins you are fat mc fat.
JuggerNaught 05-07-2004, 11:31 AM I run a 5:58 mile

or older than 22
Violent 05-07-2004, 11:31 AM we had to run under 6:30 in highschool for football... take in mind that was the time for offensive linemen... aka the larger/slower kids on the team
LostDuck 05-07-2004, 11:35 AM In high-school...my best time was 6:53. (or 5:53...I really don't remember)
I'm sure if I tried that now...15+ years later...my heart would pop like a pimple around the first quarter mile.

i hear ya. back in the day when i was in abn. school we had to run 5 minute miles, 5 miles at a time. I could hang back then..now i'd be in an ambulance in about 3 minutes
What about swimming laps?
thats the best by far especially if u cant reach the bottom. You cant cheat or you drown.
