Tru. I was shotput, discus, java.

We gotta run in one event though, so they'd stick the fat asses like me on the mile and call the event a washout in meets.

rofl thats not really a rule is it? just something your coach made you do?

uhhh, id say 6 minutes

a lap under a minute is doing pretty good for a skinny person, so id say 6 (for a mile) is a good target for you

i would give him any time under 7
i think you have to be pretty dedicated to run 6 min miles in 3 months.

Marine Corps physical fitness test, gives the maximum 100 points for running 3 miles in 18 minutes or less. So, if you ask me, running a mile in 6 minutes would be a good goal for you to set for yourself. Three miles in 18 minutes is tough, but 1 mile in 6 is doable. Particularly for a big guy like you. You and I are about the same size, I could do 3 miles in 19.

1 minute splits on a normal track for an average joe is pretty fucking good. you're running pretty fast.

1 minute splits on a track that is 1/6 of a mile...what kind of fucked up track do you run on? j/k

If you're fat and looking to lose weight you shouldn't be thinking about 1 mile or how fast you can run it. If you want to lose weight/get in shape you need to run more like 3-5 miles at about 60% your run speed (Roughly 30 minutes of running). You burn fat by working out at a pace that your body can sustain. After a while you start to burn the excess fat from your body to produce the energy needed to continue running.

However, if you really want to set a goal for your 1 mile speed. I'd go with 6-7 mins like some other people already said. Running a mile under 7 minutes means that you're in decent shape.

on the topic of running: for the last 1.5 months i have been running around 5 times a week for about 40 mins. i recently slowed my pace by about 20%. my jogs have become much more enjoyable (i never feel out of breath), and prolonged due to a slower pace. after reading some info on aerobic vs. anaerobic exercise, it is better (if burning fat is your goal) to keep the slower/longer pace, than the faster/shorter pace.

I've always been told to maintain about a target heart rate for about 30-45 minutes. Target heart rate should be something like 65-75 percent of your max heart rate (which is your age subtracted from 220). You start off by burning more sugars than fat for about 20 minutes, so you want to keep it up for a little while longer than that.

if i jog the mile, i would get like 7:30. When i tried to do real well, i got about 5:30. Thats with no practice though. Just playing sports. I bet if i practiced the mile, i could get under 5:00. I hate running too.

slut you have hybrid err what's it called? not theory, hybrid...

anyway, you're a mutt - you have good genes :)

myself, when i was a large-ish lineman earlier in highschool the best i could manage was a 6:45

then again football isn't really about running miles fast, but i'm just saying. (6'2'', weight was ~210)
