For the repair turret how about?

DART - Deployable Automated Repair Turret

1. It adequately describes the function of the deployable.
2. Everything in military operations are abbreviations and acronyms.
3. It's easy to say and hear on Ts2/Vent: "Go deploy some Darts by the HoF"

"Dart the gens" or "Dart our Flag area" would also probably be easy to say.

I'm a fan of Ockham's Razor. That all things beings equal, the simpler of two explanations is to be preferred. Or for you laymen, keep it simple, stupid.

If a pack amplifies your abilities (speed and fire rate), it boosts them... call it a boost pack.
If a pack repairs things... call it a repair pack.

Everyone, newb and veteran alike, will know what those two packs do when they read the names. Keep it simple. 'Nuff said.

For the repair turret, I like Repair Spike, Repair Beacon or for the win, DART (for Deployable automatic repairer turret)

For the speed pack, Turbo Pack gets my vote. Who wouldn't enjoy the references to toilet paper with that one.. "Go grab me some TP!" Or "damn, got TP'd again..." If I had to choose another, I'd have to go with Kinetic Pack as a nod to KP, and it's a simple, intelligent sounding name.

Actually the principle of Occam's Razor is used in determining the cause of an event, rather than deciding between two courses of action.

The KISS principle is the one you want, (and quoted in your "laymen" comment).

The Newton quote was in reference to Natural Philosophy, not esoteric game element design.

Calling it a "Boost Pack" will likely confuse someone who knows there's a pack that gives you a boost (epack) and keeps wondering why he can't get his to work. To follow your 'rules' of naming packs, the Energy Pack would have to be renamed the "Recharge Pack". ICK.

I still am partial (without having seen the model) of "Repair Spike" for the repairer. Unless it looks like a t1 portable inventory, it should work. "Turret," to me, implies that it has to aim at something to repair it. However if it works like the repair pack (and it should, consistancy) it will not aim, so much as 'affect' an area when deployed.

Lets call the turret the "Lawn dart"

i like dart pack for the reparer turret

and the speed pack well call it what you will in the game its a SPEED pack and it does not need a fancy name because you wont say to your team "get me a speed pack"

you most likely going to say, "deploys some darts in the generator room" or darts in gen

and half a year of playing people wont need to be told at all to be placeing a dart in the gen room.

i dunno but naming the speed pack is a bad idea but naming the reparer pack dart is a great idea

you could say "everyone lets go for a short trip" lol

because the pack boosts your body full of adrenalin and gives you the feeling of running around really fast and making you reload faster.
it sounds good and its easyer to type than blitz or quickining in a fast game
