First and foremost.. you are not drained of jet energy. So now you have the benefit of the shield pack, plus the mobility of having a separate energy supply for jets.
Quite right. It's the biggest factor. But I'm not arguing the the T:V pack is less powerful than in T1 - please feel free to point out where I said that (more intended as a question). I believe the T:V shield pack is tipping the scales more to favor the newbies rather than the veterans since it's quite simple - no pack management. Newbies could not cope with it well before, whereas we could. Arguing that the change benefits veterans as much is not correct. Any new change we will profit from easily since we're used to the game and newbies are not. If Thrax added a poon launcher we'd use it more effectively and own newbies with it because we're used to everything else that surrounds us - every core aspect of Tribes that we've mastered (jetting, movement, xyz strat) is in our favor. Same with the removal of the pack management - it's not really going to give the newbies some super advantage over us, but rather it will give us an advantage over them because we're going to be figuring out how best to use it - they're going to be figuring out how to use it. It's just another aspect which was designed in their favor to make the game more instantly playable, not in our favor.
Secondly.. you have the passive benefit at all times when wearing the shield pack. Whether it is active, or not.. your damage is reduced 1/4.
I already knew that. But that didn't come into my argument (again you missed what I really was talking about, when in fact I was agreeing with the majority of what zooloo said, even if it didnt look that way) since we all get the same thing when we have the shield pack on. In comparison the T:V shield pack is certainly more powerful.
not just when you're about to get shot with a disc
Oh, so you're going to wait for a mortar before you turn it on? :D. No, I agree with what you're saying. It will also distinguish further between offensive and defensive play in combat. See my other post in the other pack thread on page 3, it outlines some possibilities - let me know what you think.
Fourth, and final.. you're wrong.
Yes. About 87.678325% wrong. Something like that... you figure it out :).
