Someone clarify my understand if it's wrong.
1) Turrets spawn at specific stations, the location of which and number of which is controlled by the map maker.
2) Each station spawns a single turret, which is tied to that station. once the turret is destroyed, that station will spawn another turret.
It seems to me, assuming those two statements are true, then Farming in T:V is not going to be a position in the same sense that it has been in previous games. Granted, it's viability is going to be controlled almost completely by the locations of the stations reletive to where you would actually want to put the turrets. If the stations are too far away, it's not going to be worth the time to have anyone try to maintain a farm anymore.
Maybe farming will be delegated across a number of people instead of kept to a single person. If you're running half your D in medium (since you spawn in it and stuff), then half of them are going to be able to grab turrets and deploy them when they spawn. They'll also be able to actually have an epack or whatever on their back while they're dropping the turret so they can get right into LD as soon as they drop the turret.
UberGuy (FT) 04-27-2004, 09:06 AM If this is correct, I am curious to see the reaction in game. Most people don't want to do anything like farming. Then there are a few poeple who love it. It kinda sounds like both get screwed.
Got Haggis? 04-27-2004, 09:08 AM I think there is also only 1 type of deployable turret....(which is great). Thought I remember thrax saying that if turrets were in the game, there would only be one type.
ps
do we know that deployable turrets are even in the game?
Oxide 04-27-2004, 09:10 AM Also, what will be the limit of turrets for each team? Is that a map-setting?
From GD:
No. There will be a station for a turret (or other deployable item). A turret will spawn at that deployable station. When you pick it up, it will stay empty until that turret respawns. So If you pick up Turret 3 from deployable turret station 3 and place it. And 5 minutes later I destroy it, you'll be able to go get another turret at station 3 again. While the turret is still out and depoloyed station 3 will stay empty. This lets the map designers set the number of turrets for a given map, and position them for easy deployment (such as two near the generators, three near the flag, etc...). It's much easier in practice than my description seems to make it.
Stilgar 04-27-2004, 09:44 AM It also allows for a sneaky enemy farmer to sabotage your plans by using a turret spawn point on your side of the map?
It's been said that they can take them, but i'm not sure who they shoot at after they are deployed.
Got Haggis? 04-27-2004, 10:52 AM interesting.....looks to me like there will have to be serveral people doing the farming instead of just one. this probably leads to a bit more fun for most people, since most people dont enjoy being a farmer and the farmer only......so the multiple people who deploy turrets will probably also have other jobs.
Sir Lucius 04-27-2004, 10:57 AM O-Turrenting will be the new standard.
Amadeus 04-27-2004, 11:17 AM Question: will mediums still be able to carry turrets? I'm asking because T:V mediums are supposed to be just a bit heavier than previous lights. Or are they just that bit heavier that they can still carry some?
KillerONE 04-27-2004, 11:56 AM I can't wait to see the maps that come out with 50 Turret Stations!!!!!!!!! THAT'S GONNA BE MAD CRAZY FUN!!
(not really)
Amadeus 04-27-2004, 12:49 PM I'm more excited about the maps with the turret stations in the middle. :browsmile
LouCypher 04-27-2004, 01:13 PM Sounds like a lot of FUN running around to all the turret spawn stations trying to figure out which one was destroyed.
:stab:
Son of Mothra 04-27-2004, 01:57 PM Sounds kind of like a bad idea to me, usually farmers depend on deployed invs to get turrets, which of course were hidden around the base so made one more reason for HOs to search out invs. Or it just makes much more of a hassle for farmers :\
Half-Wit 04-27-2004, 03:06 PM I'm more excited about the maps with the turret stations in the middle. :browsmile
What like Sacbrea ?
sdest 04-27-2004, 03:21 PM Also if the station is destroyed, do the turrets its linked to get destroyed, or are they powerless, or work just dandy, the station just stops spewing them upon their linked destruction.
eMOxygen 04-27-2004, 03:24 PM What problem are they solving by changing the way turrets work?

that's more map designs then turret disign. with the new system it relies heavily on people being game smart. We all know how smart everyone is in a pub, so basicaly this system is totaly unnecessarily complicated and will not be fun. what's turning a lot of people off TV, is designers desires to change things that work. and I dont buy that bs argument of new and improved is good, because it that was the case, this game wouldn't be a UT clone as it "looks" now. again this is just my 2 cents with out any real knowledge of how it will really be like, so i'm not ranting just thinking aloud.
dragonReborn 04-27-2004, 03:43 PM Interesting.
