To be honest, the shield pack sounds a bit dumbed down from the previous Tribes games. Giving up jet energy to reduce damage balanced out quite well. I don't get why they had to mess with this. Arena players will be especially pissed off by this.

I guess we'll see how it works in beta, but I don't like the sounds of the speed pack. Increased walking speed is pretty much useless, except for farmers, and the rapid fire weapons could only be frustrating for the people it's being used against. Imagine rapid-fire mortar spam.

Also, I'll miss the ammo pack. It was very useful for heavy O/D and I see no reason for its removal except that they have to think up some sort of active feature.

It's a new game and I hope everything works out well, but a lot of the changes don't sound promising.

I disagree man. The speed pack's active ability will make skilled players very frightening, and the increased walking speed WILL be useful indoors, though not so much outdoors.

I like the new shield pack because it allows you to jet, and it isn't perfect safety. Basically, like most shields in most games, there is still bleedthrough.

Sounds like HoF might not be that useful of a position anymore...the shield packs recharge time of 8 seconds is a loonnnnnnnnng time when your dealing with mortor spam, even once its active it doenst absorb 100% damage like before. This is not nessiscarily a bad thing, I always felt hofs were a bit too powerful, on the other hand it could mean a helluva lota stand off mode time.

BETA....now

Ah, but you can jump-jet out of the way of shots, because the shield pack doesn't care about jet energy. It merely means HoF is a more active role than before.

dunno if this was addressed so here goes.

about the repair pack "cloud" Now the cloud just stays in a general area for say 10 secs. so naturally if you walk into it you start healin automatically but if you step away from it then you stop healing correct? Also i'm guessin that the enemies would heal automatically too if they walked in that cloud?

This was answered long ago. No. Enemies are not healed.

I really like the new pack layout. It will balance the gameplay out more than the previous games and increases the creativity possibilities for the player wearing it.

I can't help myself: Didn't unreal 4 have a repair gun? If the unreal engine supports a repair gun it then you must be able to do it in T:V. :nag:

When I heard all the packs work the same I thought it was a great idea. Giving all packs a passive ability I really like. But the one shot active abilities didn't flesh out like I thought they would.

I'm wondering how the repair pack is going to work out now. Will it make repairing you base more fun or less fun? Repairing crap was pretty annoying before. And thought managing energy for the shield pack was a really fun skill, I'll miss it, especially in arena. Without repair kits and old shield packs no one will be able to own in tight quarters anymore.

In T1/T2 to use your pack you had to give up some of your mobility. So there was a kind of ying/yang bout it: You give then you get. Now everyone has the same mobility, but has 1 of 4 special powers. It will interesting to see how this effects game play.

I can't wait to see what pack will be the pack of chioce for dueling.

Thrax, i thought u said with the last pack annouce, ppl would say they lost faith... Well i know i haven't. It doesn't seem to be THAT bad. Tho i might find it annoying against the chain. O ya. Since it is going to be speeding up weapons, will the chain overheat quicker? Cuz if now, i see many whoring chains a commin my way.... Another thing. Will this effect ALL weapons? Thx.

Me either. I have a feeling it will be the energy pack though, because it was the pack of choice in the two previous games/ppl usually like to stay in the air above their oponents. Also the jet burst will be nice for dodging discs. :)

I'm wondering how the repair pack is going to work out now. Will it make repairing you base more fun or less fun?It certainly makes it easer. If you think of the repair action as infecting damaged equipment with repair nanorgs it makes it a bit easier to understand how it works. When I flick on my repair pack, everything within about 7 meters is instantly infected and starts to repair. I can walk away, or stay, and it won't have any effect on how fast the item repairs. So I've got my 10 second burst to run around the base infecting anything that needs repairing, then I have to wait 8 seconds and I can make a second run and fix other things, or more fully repair existing things. You no longer have to stand by the generator like some sort of masochistic target waiting for it to finish repairing. Plus you can shoot while you're repairing, so you're no longer a stationary helpless repair-beotch

I like that. No more getting my ass blown away while reparing a turret. :)

Because assuming is bad:

Will there be some form of visual marker for the edge of the repair cloud? I don't know about you, but i still can't tell exactly how far away 7 meters is, even after four years of playing Tribes.

Will you be able to tell from a distance that your teamates are using the repair pack? (This would obviously promote it's now multi-target-oriented function)
