Thrax Panda 04-27-2004, 03:26 AM I have a question regarding the Speed Pack and Chain Gun combination.
The Speed Pack's active ability seems to speed up the Chain Gun's rate of fire by about 55.55%. Now will using the Speed Pack's active ability cause the Chain Gun to also "overheat" 55.55% faster? Thank you.I don't have an answer to that off the top of my head. my (dangerous) assumption would be that the same number of rounds would cause overheating, so if that is the case the speed pack would make the CG overheat sooner.
Mooley 04-27-2004, 03:39 AM Hmm.. realistically it also means that they run out of ammo more quickly.. so it balances out.
yeah but if they can kill you faster that means more ammo, lol!
It's all good man! :) This is good. I'm liking the sounds of how each one of these packs adds a very distinct value to how you perform. It's very cool. Why stop at just four? I'd really like to see four more. lol
The speed pack kind of itches of an annoying advantage, i don't know why. Not saying I have a problem with it at all. Can't wait to see how these things are going to play in game.
I have a small question though here because it's not clear to me. The pack energy and armor energy, both are seperate here. My curiousity is, is the armor energy by itself made sufficient enough to play that armor in the game without the aid of a energy pack? Like in previous t1/t2 you were obviously very nerfed without the energy pack. You could play naked in the right situations but the energy pack was pretty much priority or mandatory over all because it gave the best advantage in those series actually giving your armor more ability to take fire too but in T:V, does naked armor actually harness more energy in a way that you can jump in the game and be effective without an energy pack? Just the energy pack will give you an even clearer advantage in T:V?
know what i'm saying here?
CooLGuY 04-27-2004, 03:41 AM I woundered if you were going to put in the cloak pack

Wow. Interesting ..
I think you should also rename the speed pack. Sounds gay.
It should be The "Action pack" :D
Special 04-27-2004, 03:52 AM I think the speed pack has huge potential.
Mooley 04-27-2004, 03:55 AM Also, I'll miss the ammo pack. It was very useful for heavy O/D and I see no reason for its removal except that they have to think up some sort of active feature.
Yeah really. the ammo pack ... hmmm. It's passive feature should be of course, to give you more ammo and it's active feature should be the ability to blow up all contents in pack at once, kind of making you a walking bomb aka Al Qeada jihad.
That would rock, rofl.

Call it the CrackPack and I'm SO there...
Special 04-27-2004, 04:04 AM IMO, if T:V is supposed to be a fast-paced, action-oriented game, you should not be using an ammo pack. In other words, if you value action, you'll want to see the inclusion of something that makes gameplay more fast-paced, rather than one which promotes slower-paced, (much) more strategic play.
IBASHUGOOD 04-27-2004, 04:09 AM Sounds like HoF might not be that useful of a position anymore...the shield packs recharge time of 8 seconds is a loonnnnnnnnng time when your dealing with mortor spam, even once its active it doenst absorb 100% damage like before. This is not nessiscarily a bad thing, I always felt hofs were a bit too powerful, on the other hand it could mean a helluva lota stand off mode time.
BETA....now
KnightMare 04-27-2004, 04:10 AM wow a speed pack

You're forgetting the fact there's a 'buckler' weapon now that can absorb damage. Heavies in T:V are much more heavy-duty than in the previous Tribes games (I think), so imagine a heavy with a buckler and a shield pack... Add to the fact that a lot of cappers will probably be trying to use the ultra-light armor (even though I forsee people shifting to the medium to cap.)
A good HoF is good only if his supporting defense is good. Yes, you can have an HoF that won't budge a bit defending against cappers, but when it comes time to defend against things like mortar and grenade spam you'll need your supporting cast to help

iirc.. buckler is medium only weapon
Colosus 04-27-2004, 04:21 AM iirc.. buckler is medium only weapon
You recall correctly.
Also, the buckler only deflects projectiles coming from the proper angle, not all over.
this is so good and refreshing, excellent
HSAlien 04-27-2004, 04:41 AM I'm upset, I don't see the : "See what cards Alex is holding" Poker-winning pack. (I'm sure someone will MOD that)
Go to bed Col.
Cheers,
hSa
misfit 04-27-2004, 04:55 AM Ok the dev's are fudgeing with me here. The buckler sounds insanly gay and taking out the repair kits I think is dumb, but these packs sound pretty badass.
Dev's keepin me on my toes......I like :roller:
Mooley 04-27-2004, 04:58 AM One word!
Fudge pack!
ok .. that's two words.

Good point, but remember that it takes 'pack' energy now. So HoF should be able to move easier in active mod, and they can also carry a deployable(maybe theres a crazy one we dont know about). Plus from what I have seen the 'disc' looks like it packs some punch so 5 disc in 5 seconds, or 5 mortars in 6 seconds I think will clear the hof quite nicely. If the game is really going to be more fast paced with more action happening more often, then play a position that didnt require moving alot could be less useful now. I think it will be intersting come beta.
hoosierdaddy 04-27-2004, 05:04 AM It sounds great the way the packs have been designed. The "speed pack" with the absence of the "cloaking pack" does seem to take away strategy involving base infiltration. Just grab 3-4 HoF, add some mortar and grenage spam and base raping just reached a whole new level. Yes, ammo will run out quickly, but if your caught of guard for at least one second, you'll have mortars and grenades in every direction. But, assuming that you are HD, since the shield pack does not depleat suit energey and the speed pack will allow you to evade (walk) faster, that might help balance it out.
Still hard to imagine 5 mortars in 6 seconds. They weren't joking when they said the game would have quicker action.
bomer 04-27-2004, 05:11 AM No Cloak pack???????????!
