Like a spot to hold a turret instead of a weapon? -r3y Kind of. Imagine it like an RPG layout. You have a spot for a pack, 3 spots for weapons, a spot for a deployable and spot for a number of grenades. At any one point, all can be filled with something. Undisciplined 04-27-2004, 03:01 AM Hmmmm, can't say I'm a fan of the speed pack. Frankly, even indoors you don't walk around, you usually use small bursts of jets (unless perhaps you have a shield pack, but with the new changed shield pack you don't need to conserve energy). They could just make it the ammo/reload pack - passive = more ammo, active = faster fire rate. I'm also wary about the fact that the shield pack no longer requires suit energy to use... we'll have to see how this plays out. I wouldn't be surprised if it became the favored pack for cappers, with the E-pack for chase LD. Sojourn 04-27-2004, 03:02 AM I've lost all faith in T:V.. ... ... I didn't want to disappoint Chris. TheRealMysterio 04-27-2004, 03:03 AM Cools, its sounding more and more like an rpg now that i think about it ;) Different armors, shields, and weapon slots. Gon be interesting :) thanks for the heads up.... colosus -r3y ps - did that bbq ever go down? Colosus 04-27-2004, 03:04 AM Hmmmm, can't say I'm a fan of the speed pack. I simply like the fact that they are coming up with useful things that aren't just there to cancel out something else. There are a myriad of tactics that you can use for anything. New players will like the speed pack, older players may use the shield pack. LD might use the E pack or they might use the repair. bartkusa 04-27-2004, 03:04 AM Hmmmm, can't say I'm a fan of the speed pack. Shield + DJ to grab flag, then shield your ass intermittently going home. I personally see myself preferring medium in E-pack to help my movement, while using the buckler to deflect chaser fire. This is going to shake up capping loadouts so much. Brilliant. EDIT: As for the indoors, well, you can bounce down a corridor with a fair amount of speed, but you lose traction. Lets say you're going up against someone w/ a burninator. W/ the speed pack, you are more agile by keeping your feet on the ground. And with the active power, you can hose them with return-fire burnination. Yeouch! Sojourn 04-27-2004, 03:04 AM Hmmmm, can't say I'm a fan of the speed pack. This is not the case in T:V. It should also be noted that the Dev team did say that firing your jets gave you upward momentum as well.. something you may not want. I can really see the speed pack being useful for things like farmers, and indoor battles. Can you imagine being indoors and being able to throw discs at a higher rate of speed? That's a nice advantage. Colosus 04-27-2004, 03:04 AM Cools, its sounding more and more like an rpg now that i think about it ;) Different armors, shields, and weapon slots. Gon be interesting :) thanks for the heads up.... colosus -r3y ps - did that bbq ever go down? No... I was busy this weekend. We'll have it one of these days. Maybe after E3. TheRealMysterio 04-27-2004, 03:09 AM Indoor battles are gonna be totally different now with that speed pack for deployers, but especially for HO. can you imagine a HO spamming inside a base w/ a pack like that? one use to be able to slip between mortars into a base, but at that rate itd make it alot harder to take a base back from a HO spammin the crap outta it... Does being able to walk faster generally imply that you get a faster jump? aka additional speed on your initial verticle velocity? -r3y Undisciplined 04-27-2004, 03:10 AM You use small bursts of your jets indoors because walking movement in Tribes is sluggish and slow. That's a nice advantage. True, especially considering that they are supposedly increasing the thrust of jets at low speeds, which may cause more vertical movement than you'd like. Still, you rarely want to be caught ground bound in a fight in any game, particularly ones with splash damage weapons. The faster firing rate would definitely be useful, which is why I suggested that they could keep that portion of the pack while possibly re-evaluating the passive function. I agree that you don't want to be ground bound, especially indoors. I'm just not so sure that the speed wouldn't be a nice advantage indoors. I think it could be rather helpful. RegisteredFruit 04-27-2004, 03:19 AM To be honest, the shield pack sounds a bit dumbed down from the previous Tribes games. Giving up jet energy to reduce damage balanced out quite well. I don't get why they had to mess with this. Arena players will be especially pissed off by this. I guess we'll see how it works in beta, but I don't like the sounds of the speed pack. Increased walking speed is pretty much useless, except for farmers, and the rapid fire weapons could only be frustrating for the people it's being used against. Imagine rapid-fire mortar spam. Also, I'll miss the ammo pack. It was very useful for heavy O/D and I see no reason for its removal except that they have to think up some sort of active feature. It's a new game and I hope everything works out well, but a lot of the changes don't sound promising. Apotheosis 04-27-2004, 03:21 AM I have a question regarding the Speed Pack and Chain Gun combination. The Speed Pack's active ability seems to speed up the Chain Gun's rate of fire by about 55.55%. Now will using the Speed Pack's active ability cause the Chain Gun to also "overheat" 55.55% faster? Thank you.
