Weapons have always been limited by their mechanical rate. How would a chaingun, for example, speed up? It's a rotating barrel..
Bahhh.. adrenline = speed up = ppl will get the picture.

But i still think ppl will just call it the speed pack, so this is all pointless. :p

Call the deployable repair thing a "Water Cooler" because that is what it will be with everyone on the team standing around getting repaired and talking about last night's Survivor.

wouldnt the speed pack also make the energy blade more useful???

i mean you could dodge/ catch players much faster (specially indoors)
not to mention its swing and damage would be better as well

We were considering a better name for the speed pack. "Action" pack isn't so bad. Any other ideas?

Yay! Action pad lends more to itself actually and it's kind of a funny little pun. :) I think it rocks.

You cannot start and stop a pack's charge arbitrarily. We've had a lot of discussions about this. Personally I enjoy the skill it takes to turn a pack on and off. Others do not like this ability, and I can appreciate why. So that's the way it is for now.

I can only assume myself this is done with the newbie in mind. People that actually know how to run a pack by starting and stoping a pack's charge arbitrarily gives a big advantage to the experienced but this ability is unigue and a part of the learning curves about Tribes but I also think your "appreciation" goes to the newb minded protectors.

The repair pack (and all packs actually) are currently missing most of their effects. There'll be cool-looking effects for all of them eventually that should hopefully make it obvious what they're doing and how they work. For example, the repair pack is meant to be accompanied by tendrils of nano-healing goodness that stretch from the repairer to all objects receiving repairs within the area of effect.

Can't wait for the effects. Hope they're cool.

Currently the speed pack doesn't help you much with the Buckler. We've considered what Rigel suggested in this thread, namely making the speed pack also affect the fuse times and/or speed and/or gravity of projectiles. The speed pack is a big unknown. It'll require lots of tuning.

The speed pack passive effect makes you run faster. The speed pack active effect makes you run even faster. This is not just useful for running around indoors. It's useful when fighting outdoors because you can dodge around on the ground quite effectively, making it more difficult for people to hit you.

The action pack is starting to sound over powered. "Sounding"

The default CTF loadout is medium armor with spinfusor, chaingun, blaster. The default loadout for Ball will probably be spinfusor, grappler and buckler. You can "catch" the ball with the grappler. You'll be able to "kick" the ball with the buckler (not yet implemented).

To answer a question that'll inevitably arise: you can currently grapple a flag, but we're going to start by not allowing you to grapple it from its stand. So you can only grapple it in the field or when it's in the air. You'll be able to pass the flag further than in T1 and T2 but not nearly as far as in TR2. You'll be able to pass the ball quite far.

It's funny and I could dig out the thread but a lot of what's in game share a funny parallel to the ideas I had about weapons suggestions I made in my "Ball gamtype" thread a while back which was also ironic because it was when the grappler rumor was floating around, lol.

The buckler's ability especially and the fact that you can kick the ball soon. Those are great ideas.

There's a new deployable I haven't seen mentioned yet. Maybe you can help give it a better name. Currently we just call it the repairer. It's like the inverse of a turret. It gradually repairs friendly objects and players in its radius, and this effect stacks with the repair pack. It also slowly repairs itself. I'll leave it to you guys to think of the various ways this could be used.

Hmmm, name? Tower of babble. The injector. Regeneration pod (Regenapod). The wand. Bloodbank. Repair pod?

Can we a picture of it KP?! That'd be much more help for a name. We already know it exists so lets see it. :)

Will the chaingun fire underwater, and if so, does it overheat or does the water act as a heat sink?

It never made sense in T2 that the environment didn't effect weapons behavior. For example I don't think missiles should lock on Firestorm since there is lava and (one would assume) a LOT of heat.

Haha. You couldn't fire the shocklance nor the plasma gun under water in t2 and misslelauncher didn't lock but dummy fired.

Dont take me to seriously i know its just a game but
I have a question

All the packs to me, basically have an expanation of how they work, except the speed pack.

For example. the repair pack repairs.....and to do so it releases little tiny nanorgs bots that are smart and fix stuff lol

Just for the hell of it, even thought it doesnt really matter, can i have an explanation for the speed pack? how does it make your gun shoot faster?

edit: or is there just no explanation? either way im: :)

It makes you more potent in battle.

The Potent Pack! omg! :x

lol

or action pack :P

Accelerator Pack?

shouldn't be Speed Pack cause Shield Pack & Speed Pack can both be "SP".

I also like Agility Pack and Quick Pack
