Disliking the beta?ZOD 04-27-2004, 04:27 PM HV 4 lyfe!!111111 ? :notsigned Hurricane Harold 04-27-2004, 08:40 PM Yes, hv is kinda blah. Etc, etc. What I'm curious about is what they're going to do to stop stupid people from thinking of the beta (especially when first out, and possibly not tuned and balanced properly) as a "demo". It is my opinion that there should be a voice (audio) and text window (visual) that come up either in the installer or in the game the first time it is loaded. These would clearly state that: "This game is a beta, and is not in a retail demo state. There may be extreme bugs and gameplay imbalances. It is the goal of the beta to let players test the game before its release, and provide input that will be used to improve the final product..." I simply think having a voice saying this would improve the comprehension of the statement by the type of people who just close stuff without reading it. slayr 04-27-2004, 09:50 PM If they think the beta is a demo and dont like it, they deserve to miss out. If they are stupid enough to not know the difference then I dont want them running around with a spinfuser in their hands. If they are stupid enough to not know the difference then I dont want them running around with a spinfuser in their hands. I don't care about them at all. It's just the way information can spread from person to person. If one newbie thinks the game is horrible, he will tell ten others (those others may have no idea of said person's newbieness). And if any of those others are potential tribes players, or friends of potential tribes players, all of their opinions of the game will drop and many might not even pick up the game. Then the word will spread about the internet, people who have not even played it take this to mean the retail version will suck, many don't even consider the game anymore, etc. It's not good. Overall, while this player might be a complete moron, others will possibly listen to him, if only subliminally. They might also not know that it's a beta, and think that he is talking about a real demo. I mean, if the newbie speaking of it doesn't know, who is to say those he is talking to will? It's all bad, imho. And it can't be too hard to get in a voice and a text box, can it? Edit: Err, sales kind of matter to the future of the Tribes franchise at that, don't they? More sales = likely good for fans slayr 04-27-2004, 10:33 PM True, better to do it to for the sales. But I dont listen to ppl on games anyways, I found Tribes 2 by myslelf, researched it, bought it, and still think its the best game i've ever played. Now if I could only get the damn thing to work again.... Hurricane Harold 04-27-2004, 10:46 PM Yeah, I personally got into the Tribes 1 demo after a friend told me about it. I had never heard of the game before that. After one game I was hooked, and I played that demo for several months before, after hearing mention of it in some of the servers, I went out and bought Tribes 2. And so I personally know how powerful word of mouth is. If it wasn't for my friend somehow spotting the T1 demo it on the internet, I may never have found about this awesome gaming franchise and would probably be playing UT or some other 'normal' fps. (Heh, this last point I have on this.) | ||
