Will T:V support PIP, (picture in picture,) like on the Half-Life 2 E3 vid and Battlezone 2 sniper rifle?

Id like to have Real Time-Updated cameras in my base watching the flag, gens and all the exits.

A working CC screen on a wall would not be very usefull but would bring in some of that "WOW!" factor...

I'm guessing that cameras wont be in, simply because they were one of the least used aspects of t1 and t2

no! i mean, just as eyecandy, haveing a tv on a wall showing, in Real time, your flag, gens or exits to your base.

also you can have a BZ2 style sniper rifle <----that would rock in tribes :)

Edit: or a CC on a wall or a halograph of the cortyard of your base or bunches of tvs with nose-cams of all your teams pods.

very unlikely because that would motivate players to stay in one stop in there base and not move. Tribes is about movement and that would take away from the teamplay as well.

It would be kinda cool, there was this one map in UT2k4. A double-domination map and when you where standing on one Capture point, there was a big-ass LCD screen that showed the other cap point so you could keep track of your buddies progress while you where waiting for badguys to show up.

This would be kinda cool for HoF's who could watch video screens showing outdoor events (in the case of an indoor flag), to either anticipate incoming cappers, or at the very least keep you sane when things are slow.

The problem that T1 ran into with this was the rendering of two seperate views at once.

There were zoom scripts that simulated PiP (I used one religiously). but it came at a cost of framerate, and that was just a single POV.

Having two seperate POV's could concieveably kill framerates even on big cards.

Effective PiP would have to be coded in at the engine level I think. I dunno even then if it could be decent without sacrificing graphical complexity.

Excuse me sir, would you like some Pip with that?

a multi cam view would be nice

especially for a 'coach' type player .. a captain/leader who doesn't play but watches helmet-cams of his teammates and guides the strategy

Problem with THAT is not the job isn't necessary, but that it isn't FUN.

Try it sometime. Get half a dozen boxes with half a dozen demos from the same match going at the same time (if you can figure out a way to sync them) and just watch the cams... If you can also get recordings of the voice coms and run those too.

If you can get an overall grasp of strategy from that, you're probably the one of ten people who can. Now if you can develop strategy on the fly and communicate it usefully in real time to your team, you've got better leadership skills than most of the tribes community.

If you can have FUN doing this, it would surprise the hell out of me.

actually it is a lot of fun for people that like doing it.. my leader would rather do this than play the match (and he has coached scrims and matches where the other team has let him, he sat in obs..).. and I am the type of person that would like to do this

Thats my point.. the people who do find this fun are few and far between. Competition won't ever have this kind of position (a non player "coach") and trying to do it in pubs would drive almost anyone insane.

Ever hear of "Natural Selection"? It's a HL conversion, and part of it is similar. You place waypoints and issue orders for your team to follow for one side.

Anyway, I'm not saying that it's not a good thing, merely that it's never going to be mainstream.

agreed, also the dev teams motto is water/dumb down the game.

You absolutely sure that's KP's and Thrax's mottos? Haven't they been playing the game longer than you?

Yeah they have.

But take this into consideration:
Targeting Laser - scrapped due to the possibility of confusing new players.
Health Kit - scrapped because new players didn't know how to use it/one less key bind.
Jump Pads - added because new players can't move or jet without UT style of gamplay.
Auto Jump-Jet - added to cater to noobs

probably more but I don't want to turn this into a flame war.

they said the health kit was tentative. And if there was scripting allowed there'd be a Jump-Jet script within hours of release, you can do it the old fashioned way too. (jump then jet)

this isn't for pubbing at all, it's purely for competition, and people enjoy it and it has been brought up many times in the past

you say these people are few and then you bring up Natural Selection which disproves your own point? people loved to command in that game, same with Allegiance, which was really the first game to introduce a Commander/Coach type.. people fought for that position every game.. but both of these games give this 'coach' certain power, which I don't want to do (aside from the camera views, and maybe placing waypoints and simple shazbot like that)
