EDIT: Why should I talk when Thrax explains it in certain terms
fyi-gunshipbartkusa 04-27-2004, 03:21 AM EDIT: Why should I talk when Thrax explains it in certain terms Apotheosis 04-27-2004, 03:56 AM Buckler: A weapon that is thrown, doing damage to your opponent when it strikes them. While held, it can reduce the damage taken by the holder, and causes additional knock back in player to player collisions. The buckler doesn't reduce damage the same way a shield pack does. When held, it reflects projectiles. It covers part of your front, but not all, KP I am a bit confused by these seemingly contradictory statements, and have a few questions of my own (sorry for the bother, Thrax :P ) The way I understand it (as per KineticPoet's most recent post) is that the Buckler does not reduce the damage taken by the player in any way, but instead just reflects projectiles. There is no damage taken or penalty at all for deflecting a projectile. I assume that this means explosions "go through" the shield. For example, if I fire a disc on the ground directly in front of a player that is holding a Buckler, the player will still take as much damage as if he/she were not holding a Buckler. Is this correct? I also assume that the projectiles reflected inherit part of the player's (the Buckler user's) momentum. For example, if you fly towards an incoming mortar round, it will actually cause the mortar round to be deflected further away from you, than if you were to just stand still and deflect the mortar round. Is laser fire (from the Laser Rifle) reflectible? How about rockets? (What happens to the guidance system?) Can you grapple (using the Grappling Hook) onto a player who is using the Buckler and is facing you? Is it possible to knock back non-player entities/objects? For example, can you use the knock back ability of the Buckler on the ground below you in order to achieve a sort of Buckler jump? Can a player juggle objects such as packs and weapons in the air using the Buckler? ;) Following the previous question, is it possible for two teammates who are both using the Buckler to knock back each other? Consider one player using the Buckler and moving towards a second player. When the first player is close enough, the second player jumps, and faces down as if to knock back the first player. Upon contact, both players simultaneously knock back each other, causing the second player to perform a teammate assisted Buckler jump. Thank you. :) exogen 04-27-2004, 04:40 AM The only bone left (that we know of) is the 2nd ground vehicle. The rover all ready has a gunner. So the 2nd vehicle is probably a tank. Don't forget deployables... Trashman 04-27-2004, 04:55 AM is this vehicle still in ? it was posted on the-junkyard... http://the-junkyard.net/images/vehicles/tvengeance/tank-b.gif Colosus 04-27-2004, 06:29 AM No. That was a static object from the prototype. GIMPbeowulf 04-27-2004, 07:02 AM Too bad, that thing looks rockin. Maybe it's concept art that will make it to fruition. :) It does make sense that the 2nd ground vehicle would be a tank-ish thing... and that certainly looks like a tank-ish thing. :) Panda Star 04-27-2004, 09:19 AM Not the spinfuser. See my post on the Buckler above. Thrax I think you guys should helped him write that article cause quite frankly his writing is moronic and hard to follow. Theta 04-27-2004, 09:27 AM Don't forget deployables... Hopefully there's only the mine and a single turret. |MrSniper|Nyx 04-27-2004, 10:17 AM Can multiple people grapple one person? GIMPbeowulf 04-27-2004, 10:23 AM Can multiple people grapple one person? WHAT ABOUT GRAPPLE CHAINS???!!!1!1 Fraggy Poo 04-27-2004, 10:37 AM I love the direction T:V is heading, but I have some questions about the grappler. I think if you want to remain grappled to something you should still be holding the gun, being able to switch weapons while retaining a grapple would open up problems much like beacon hanging and cheap tactics with grapple + chaingun. The ability to grapple onto people is cool, but make it so you must be equiped with the grappler to do so, being able to switch weapons just really messes up the balance. Phantom 04-27-2004, 10:44 AM Can multiple people grapple one person? WHAT ABOUT GRAPPLE CHAINS???!!!1!1 Bistromatic 04-27-2004, 12:12 PM Two things(and one OT): 1.So, if you fire the grappling hook at something it stay attached until you detach it or the line is broken, but how do you detach the line? When you hold down fire it slowly reels you in, so it would seem possible to release it by tapping the fire button. The problem with this however is that you can apparently switch to another weap while staying hooked. Do you have to change back to the hook to detach, do you have to shoot it with the other weap, or is there some other way? 2. It would be cool to have the gunship's landing gear retract at a certain altitude. OT: My face-recognition sucks, but is the guy in the yellow shirt Bill Newman? http://www.ewto-hr.com/vodice_2003/bilder/buckler.gif ZOD 04-27-2004, 01:37 PM Yeah being able to fire weapons when grappling does sound mighty lame. Also sounds like you would need yet another key bind which makes one of the reasons given for losing the repair kit null. Rev. Night 04-27-2004, 01:40 PM bah, tribes was always rather light on the keybinds. if u want a kb-intensive game, try Rainbox Six. KineticPoet 04-27-2004, 09:46 PM I am a bit confused by these seemingly contradictory statements Yeah, I posted to clarify what Thrax actually meant to say... Is this correct? Yep, your understanding and assumptions are correct. I also assume that the projectiles reflected inherit part of the player's (the Buckler user's) momentum. For example, if you fly towards an incoming mortar round, it will actually cause the mortar round to be deflected further away from you, than if you were to just stand still and deflect the mortar round. We're still working on the reflection ability...it has some problems. Is laser fire (from the Laser Rifle) reflectible? How about rockets? (What happens to the guidance system?) Yep, both reflectible. You lose control over reflected rockets. Can you grapple (using the Grappling Hook) onto a player who is using the Buckler and is facing you? You're not supposed to be able to but there might currently be a bug. Is it possible to knock back non-player entities/objects? For example, can you use the knock back ability of the Buckler on the ground below you in order to achieve a sort of Buckler jump? Can a player juggle objects such as packs and weapons in the air using the Buckler? ;) Nope. You're supposed to be able to knockback objects (which would allow juggling) but that's not yet implemented. Following the previous question, is it possible for two teammates who are both using the Buckler to knock back each other? Consider one player using the Buckler and moving towards a second player. When the first player is close enough, the second player jumps, and faces down as if to knock back the first player. Upon contact, both players simultaneously knock back each other, causing the second player to perform a teammate assisted Buckler jump. Yes. Stop thinking so much...you're ruining the excitement of discovery! =) Currently this is a bit broken though. You can fling a teammate halfway across the map, KP Gallium 04-27-2004, 10:03 PM i have to stop reading TT until beta comes out, i hate having these ideas to try out and no release. Gallium KineticPoet 04-28-2004, 12:05 AM Yeah being able to fire weapons when grappling does sound mighty lame. Also sounds like you would need yet another key bind which makes one of the reasons given for losing the repair kit null. You can currently switch to another weapon while grappled. This requires no extra keys (you just have to switch back to the grappler if you want to manually disconnect it). It's potentially too powerful but it'll be easy to change this behaviour if it becomes a problem. We're also currently reviewing the way the grappler works due to some usability issues, KP Mooley 04-28-2004, 12:43 AM Yeah, I posted to clarify what Thrax actually meant to say...
