Yes. The hook remains attached until something breaks it, or you detach it. It detaches if anything passes thru the line, for instance if the line passes thru a tree, or a player passes thru your line, or you pass around the corner of a building. There is a short grace area at the hook end of the line that can pass thru things (otherwise the hook would almost always break before you wanted it to). Currently there is an unlimited amount of "ammo" for the hook, but that may change as we see how it is used in the game.

I probably make it a once it breaks, thats it thing. Would make people try harder to use it in ways it wouldn't break, or make them cry every 5 mins because they broke it again

Hmm... seems to me that it would be a bit difficult to use if it was effectively a one shot weapon unless you detatched it.

Have to see.

The only bone left (that we know of) is the 2nd ground vehicle. The rover all ready has a gunner. So the 2nd vehicle is probably a tank.

edit: and of course we don't know the 4th pack :p

unless the 2nd vehicle is a wildcat type thing for capping...id prefer that over a tank. unless this has already been ruled out?

The buckler doesn't reduce damage the same way a shield pack does. When held, it reflects projectiles. It covers part of your front, but not all,

Wow, sounds kind of like a medieval shield. Maybe even one with buckles.

I believe thrax said that the other vehicles (not pod and rover) were multi person vehicles. I don't have a link, but I remember something like that. So that would leave out a wildcat type vehicle.

edit: did a quick skim through the dev tracker, have no idea if it's multiperson or not :p

I dont think bucklers were of the medieval period. Much more reminiscent of the classical period, perhaps even as far back as the bronze age. In the late classical and early antique period, larger shields hardened leather stretched over a wooden frame and support by iron bands were much more popular.

Bucklers were used in gladitorial combat in the Roman Empire until around 500ad, when most of the games stopped completely. Even then it was only as a balancing factor; there were a few classes of gladiators (Thraces and Gali, for example) who were lightly armed all around. These 'lights' were pitted up against heavily armed opponents for variety in the games.

Anyway, yeah, who didnt know a buckler was a type of shield?

In an interview, someone at Irrational said that, early in the design process, they realized that speed = skill.

I will be glad to see the end of Shrike capping.

That's what a buckler is. It's a buckler shield.

T:V is starting to sound really, really cool

Gotta question (not sure how to explain it very well tho'):

-When you shoot the hook out and it connects with an object: does the hook reel in and out like a fishing line as you approach the object you connected to? or does the line slack as you get closer to the connecting object and then turn you when fly past and reach the distance established when you first connected with the object?

I'm trying to visualize it

Thrax Panda

It reels in, but doesn't pull in. So it says tight, but doesn't pull you. If you hook onto something, you can then hold the fire button in and it will slowly reel you in (like a winch, not like the old quake hook).
