poisonspider 04-26-2004, 08:30 PM Buckler: A weapon that is thrown, doing damage to your opponent when it strikes them. While held, it can reduce the damage taken by the holder, and causes additional knock back in player to player collisions.
sssssssssstrange weapon. Why does it reduce damage to you when you holding it?
Fraggy Poo 04-26-2004, 08:30 PM Cool, Buckler and shield pack confirmed in one thread!
I like the idea.
Remember, a medium with a buckler + shield pack won't have any real offensive weapon, so while it may be hard to kill him, he can't really do anything to you back.
The gunship looks pretty cool as well, looks like a cross between an osprey and a blackhawk.
However.. I can see defenders near the flag with bucklers to bounce people back, grapplers to slow cappers down, and burninators to burninate the flag stand so if you pass through it you will get burninated. I hope you guys are beefing up offense!
Rev. Night 04-26-2004, 08:31 PM But the technology to shoot while cloaked shouldn't exist until Tribes 6: The Undiscovered Route.
By then, the tribes franchise will continue to mirror star trek names and even dable in pornography, with Tribes 7: Voyeurism
Apotheosis 04-26-2004, 08:33 PM One question about the Shield Pack;
Can you activate and deactivate your Shield Pack's active ability at any time, a la T1 and T2?
Or, if you activate the Shield Pack, must you wait until the pack energy is completely depleted (and then completely restored again) in order to activate the active ability again?
Example; In T1, with full energy you could activate the Shield Pack and leave it on until you were down to just 25% energy. Then you could deactivate the pack and wait until you were up to 75% energy. You could then activate the pack again at this point (75% energy). Is this still possible in T:V?

Madend 04-26-2004, 08:36 PM Heavy can't use the buckler haggis. and you'd get rid of them by grappling them then jumping in a vehicle and driving off :)
I wonder if that would work... back in a second...
:( nope. Can't hook and run. But a clever alternate disk jump does wonders for hauling a heavy off of whatever they're standing on. Hook, fly over, disk their feet, and keep going and a light can pull a heavy right up into the air. WIthout the disk you can only pull them up a few feet before you come slamming back down, but you can drag them around a bit before they figure out what the hell is going on.
So you can hook someone, switch weapons & fire while remaining hooked to them?
Thrax Panda 04-26-2004, 08:41 PM finally im not confused thanksPlease send me a large supply of whatever you're taking.
Rev. Night 04-26-2004, 08:42 PM Please send me a large supply of whatever you're taking.
It's called reality. Perhaps u should have a bunch, then u will realize the wisdom of bringing back the cloak pack and SL. :cat:

sssssssssstrange weapon. Why does it reduce damage to you when you holding it?Because it's a "Buckler (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=buckler)"

mixolydian 04-26-2004, 08:44 PM uh oh, shazbot just hit the fan.
Thrax Panda 04-26-2004, 08:47 PM if you activate the Shield Pack, must you wait until the pack energy is completely depleted (and then completely restored again) in order to activate the active ability again? This is the case for all packs. They have a "reload" time.

Good man. Knew u were reasonable
Certainly an influance, if only subliminally, but I think that Lucius is more on the mark.
:bigthumb:
Sounds like an interesting idea.
Honestly people. I would be more worried if Irrational appeared to be totally ignoring innovation in tribes gameplay and going with all the safe "tried and true" methods of doing everything. This is a new game and I expect new things. You want the old stuff, there is already a game out for that.
Anyhoo. If it sucks or something there is always the beta to whine about it.
I seriously doubt it's going to suck though. Irrational seems to put a crapload of thought into everything that they do. One might even argue that it's a disproportionate amount...
I therefore give them the benefit of the doubt until beta.:)
Rev. Night 04-26-2004, 08:48 PM yeah but whining is fun tho
Thrax Panda 04-26-2004, 08:51 PM So you can hook someone, switch weapons & fire while remaining hooked to them?Yes. The hook remains attached until something breaks it, or you detach it. It detaches if anything passes thru the line, for instance if the line passes thru a tree, or a player passes thru your line, or you pass around the corner of a building. There is a short grace area at the hook end of the line that can pass thru things (otherwise the hook would almost always break before you wanted it to). Currently there is an unlimited amount of "ammo" for the hook, but that may change as we see how it is used in the game.
Killjoy 04-26-2004, 08:54 PM this shazbot sounds pretty damn cool
Of course, come beta I plan to savage their design decisions mercilessly and without pity. ;)
thrax care to guestimate when beta is?
dan-o2 04-26-2004, 09:21 PM Awesome thread, and I'd like to say thanks to Thrax for being so upfront about it, instead of acting like certain... Other developers (Valve when the HL2 scoop was leaked threatening legal action, etc.) Props, bro. :)
