Shoddy 04-23-2004, 01:33 PM I like that you don't hit yourself with your disk in T2. Not sure if that is due to intrinsic speed of the disk or a difference in velocity inheritance or due to the client waiting for the server to agree that you've fired.
Fraggy Poo 04-23-2004, 01:44 PM I have been playing T1 since 99, and I always thought the disk flew a little too slow. T2 almost had it right, but was too fast. I think a velocity in between those two extremes would be perfect. At least make if faster than T1's, so we don't hit ourselves with the disk at high speeds.
UberGuy (FT) 04-23-2004, 03:55 PM Heh, I had forgotten about discing yourself.
Phaseshift 04-23-2004, 04:11 PM But this time we will have gliding. By combining gliding and jetting I'm thinking it will be much easier to dodge discs and make your movements more erradic.
I think we will need want a fast disc for MA's because of this.
I liked how it worked in T2. If you didn't know it was comming you were MA toast. But if you were expecting it you had a chance to dodge.

Gliding is not supposed to allow you to dodge discs in mid air. It is meerly to help you with perfecting your ski route, but you will gain very little (next to none) direction change in the time a disc travels from an opponent to you, even if it's one of those slow T1 discs.

it's more likely that you can't ski faster than a disc in T2, while you can in T1

you can MA yourself in classic.

I'm quite the opposite.
If T:V makes any drastic changes to weapon speeds in comparison to the speeds found in T1 I am not buying this game. Call it what you will, but I'm still a T1 junkie at heart, like most of the people here. No offence to the developers, all their work is (very) appreciated and I'd quite happily give them my money if such an aspect of pace weren't tampered with too much. Of course, all will be ironed out in beta, right? :P
Theta 04-23-2004, 08:19 PM Of course, all will be ignored in beta, right? :P
fixed

I am pertty sure it's established you can get more speed in Classic T2 than in Tribes. It sure as hell feels faster.
Not that that's better. Just pointing it out. I think it has more to do with T1 not imparting as much momentum to the projectile. That and some sort of snafu with spawning the projectile behind you when you are moving really fast. I know I ran into that with some T1 vehicle mods I once did. I ended up having to spawn the projectile slightly in front of the vehicle.
i think classic just feels faster because you cannot move in the air, even when going medium pace you can only adjust yourself as if you were going pretty fast in T1.

So I wasnt totally speaking out my ass when I brought up the disk inheriting momentum?

Actually it feels faster because it is faster. Also, to add to it, it is much easier to attain high speeds in Classic as opposed to T1. Classic is like the bunny slopes at a ski lodge. Anyone, even the most retardo n00b can reach high speeds in Classic without having to practice routes for months.
I certainly hope it is harder to attain such speeds in T:V without putting some work in.
UberGuy (FT) 04-23-2004, 09:25 PM So I wasnt totally speaking out my ass when I brought up the disk inheriting momentum?
No, but the amount of inheritance on the two is probably not the same. I could go rooting through the code to find out for sure, but I'm feling lazy. :)
Hilikus 04-23-2004, 10:56 PM crank up the speed of armors and set the projectiles to spawn more per second and fire straight.... you will find the projectiles inherit little, or maybe not at all.
this is just one of many issues in modding i found in tribes... not to bash tribes but just pointing out issues involved.

I agree. I hope it is harder to attain such speeds in T:V.
Theta 04-23-2004, 11:25 PM The discs inherit lateral movement, but not forward/backward movement.
UberGuy (FT) 04-24-2004, 01:10 AM The discs inherit lateral movement, but not forward/backward movement.
No, that must be an illusion. There is no distinction in direction for the inheritance. There is only one value - I became less lazy and checked.
On the interesting side, the base velocity inheritance is the same: 0.5 (so the disc picks up 1/2 your velocity).
This was changed (by ZOD ;)) to be 0.75 in classic.
