Flags should stand upright for the simple reason of "function" over form. A flag laying flat against the terrain would be alot harder to see and wondering around searching for a flag lost in the grass doesn't sound like fun. You'd need to add in a HUD marker over the flag and thus it'd be just as easy to keep it upright at all times.

Especially considering by day 2 someone will have a hack that makes the flag 90 feet tall with a giant happy face on the top. Why give cheaters an even bigger advantage?

I think an upright flag's the best way to go, speaking as a man who has trouble enough finding and defending a dropped flag that stands straight up and has a big glowing aura over it.

If the flag is constantly smoking, I doubt it would be hard to find it, upright or not.

You're not me, Member. I'm an LPB who can't chain. I'm a vet who can't MA. My greatest proficiency at any Tribes skill was doing loop-de-loops in T1 scout races and building Zen gardens in Renegades. Don't tell me what I can and can't find, because you're talking to a man who still gets lost on Snowblind.

hehe, I'm just saying that with the smoke it doesn't matter if it's upright or not. The height of the smoke stream makes up for the fact that it's flat. Of course, wind could mess that up. Sounds like you need a 90 foot tall flag with a smilie on it. ;)

My friend, not even a Flag of the Happy variety with a smiling face that rises above the T:V clouds could help my pitiful skill at reaching dropped flags quickly, much less my ability to fend off the enemies who wish to take it and hunting down any sneaky bastards that DO manage to snag it.

Then again, I'm an honest sort who doesn't interpolate, and never "cheated" beyond red mines and exploding chain sparks...which I ditched after about six months because they weren't helping anyway.

No discing or otherwise moving the flag in the field (unless you grapple it).

I experimented with making the flag a bit like one of those inflatable clown things with a weight on the bottom, the idea being it would at least wobble somewhat realistically in the field. Heh, this didn't work at all...

I dunno about a flag lying on its side in the field. It would seem strange to me but I'm just used to seeing a vertical flag. I'd have to try it,

Sounds like this idea didn't work out but its the kind of thing I would like to see the flag do.
