Hi guys,

I've tried to set up a new network here with my brother's old microsoft router. The computers can see each other in Network Places, but they are unable to ping each other.

I need help on this because I need to be able to refer to the other computer by it's local ip address (192.168.2.34). Is there a setting somewhere that will allow me to refer to the other computers in my network by their IP, instead of doing it through explorer?

Thanks...

(XP Pro)

Sounds like a firewall somewhere in your network.

XP Pro, depending on what option you chose when you first installed it, will enable the MS Firewall right off the bat which will reject pings.
Real simple check is to go into your network connections from the control panel (or rightclick my network places, properties). then go to the properties of your active LAN connection.
Hit the advanced tab and see if that's enabled.
Also possible that one of the machine has norton or mcaffe's firewall installed (comes with different versions of their antivirus software, Norton internet security for example).
