help with XP

I recently formatted my comp and got XP Professional up. Whenever I try to start tribes 1, it does absolutely nothing. I watched the task manager during this process, and the tribes process opens up then closes after a second. Anyone had this before or know whats up?

Tried everything I know of except reformatting, help?

There may be an app running that is interfering.
Such as...I used to have black ice...it would not allow me to play lan/host.
Same symptom as you.
I removed it, viola.

no dice, im running now with just mirc open and all unknown tasks shut off in manager, and still doesn't open

Maybe check the XP firewall in network connections, it runs fine on mine, except for a weird "shadow" effect on the menus before the game starts, then its just like the old days.
