Today TribalWar, in association with HomeLAN, is proud to introduce the TribalWar Competition System. The TCS is our new league, ladder, and tournament system designed to provide the highest level of competition to the Tribes community. Developed with feedback and suggestions from TribalWar members in mind, the TCS introduces new aspects of competitive gaming to our community that we think will help to provide the best competition around. HomeLAN has been working with the Tribes community for over five years hosting both managed servers for tribes and TribalWar. They have also been involved in other games such as America’s Army, Savage, and Halo PC.

Professional Administration

HomeLAN has agreed to provide professional, dedicated, and impartial administrators to handle the day-to-day running of the TCS. These administrators will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the ladders, leagues, and tournaments of the TCS. They will enforce rules, mediate disputes, and, when requested, provide referees for matches. These admins and refs bring with them years of gaming experience and the ability to provide quick, unbiased judgments. Thanks to HomeLAN, the TCS will provide the fairest administrators we could ask for. We look forward to working with them and want to thank them for putting up with all the hard work they are undertaking.

Community Led

While the HomeLAN admins will provide the day-to-day administration, the major decisions of the TCS will be handled by the TribalWar Competition Council. The TCC will be an elected body of five members from the TCS community that will vote on any major issues that arise. These issues include rule changes, adding new ladders, leagues or tournaments, and ruling on any major penalties against teams. The TCS community will elect the TCC Members every few months. Because the TCC Members are elected, and from within the community, we believe they will be able to enact the will of the community better than any appointed administrator could. The HomeLAN admins will be responsible for carrying out the decisions of the TCC.

Read the TCC Charter here.

Hybrid Ladders

The TCS will introduce Hybrid Ladders to the majority of our community that has never participated in one. Hybrid Ladders act as a normal competition ladder most of the time. Teams challenge other teams that are higher up on the ladder and if the attacker wins they take the place of the defending team that moves down a rung. However, every few months a Hybrid Ladder takes the top teams and seeds them into a single-elimination tournament. The results of this tournament reseed the ladder, meaning the tournament winner will take the top rung on the ladder. This type of ladder structure prevents stagnation at the very top echelon of teams and gives more people a chance to be on a number one team.

The TCS is designed as a competition system that works the way the community wants it to work. Since the community has a direct say in its operation we hope that the TCS will become a successful competition site for the Tribes community and will offer the type of games everyone is looking for. In a short time we’ll be opening the TCS for a beta test. We will open it live in time for the Tribes: Vengeance beta. We hope you’ll join us in creating a competition system that the community really loves.

That's nice of Homelan to do this. Because I assume they'll be providing the servers to play on. We could test the system with a UT2K4 ladder if you'd like.
