Should any of the parts that are listed here be replaced/upgraded? I did a bunch of research but advice is always helpfull from fellow computer nerds

Are you ocing? If not, you're wasting lots of money on the memory and the heatsinks. Do you have a specific reason for getting something with the 875 chipset? If not, you're wasting a bit of money again. Why are you buying hard drives from Samsung? And why are you getting two CDRW drives?

dont get the radeon 9800xt its not much faster than the 9800 pro and costs twice as much. Don't go with the new prescott from intel get the 64 bit amd and matching asus deluxe board (Including Raid, doesn't need a sound card either). Get a pair of 36 gig WD raptors with the money you will save on the vid card, instread of the samsung units. Get the creative audigy 2 sound card. Get the plexor 8x dvd writer in place of both of those drives. This set up should cost about the same but would kick ass over the intel in games, and most benchmarks. I can't stress how fuckin cool those WD raptor drives are, I have a set in Raid 0 and they own all else.

Yah iNVAR, I'm seriously gonna OC it!
The reason I got that board is because of it's stability and features in OC'ing.
With the Mushkin Dual-Channel mem and all the cooling features/fans, and replaced HD's, this machine should be a beast.

As for the 2 CD's (CD to CD burning) one can read DVD's also and it cost less than 90$ for both so no big deal.

OK. Here is what I changed based upon Advice from TW and others...

Replaced:
ATI OEM SAPPHIRE RADEON 9800XT 256MB DVI/TV 8X AGP OEM
With:
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9800PRO Video Card, 256MB DDRII, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "ULTIMATE RADEON 9800 PRO" -RETAIL
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?descripti on=14-102-294
Just to save a few $$ AND BOTH ROCK ANYWAYS!

Replaced:
2 SAMSUNG 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drives, Model SP0812C, OEM Drive Only
With:
2 Western Digital Raptors 36.7GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD360GD, OEM Drive Only
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?descripti on=22-144-200
These are small and expensive (But God they are fast! I totally forgot about them, Thanx ep!c), and I can allways get another HD later on if needed. Shit I got two 40 gigs on this machine and they are not half full after 2 years. I burn shit on CD's alot anyways.

Replaced:
Turtle Beach 6-Channel PCI Sound Card, Model "Santa Cruz"
With:
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 PCI Sound Card, Model "SB0244" -OEM
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?descripti on=29-102-158
Much better specs for just a few more $$

Hopefully thats all the changes as my head hurts now from comparing/investigating parts. :read:

Total now: 1644$
Close to my breaking point!

EDIT: Does anyone think I should wait for PCI Express to come out before completing this deal? A buddy of mine says to. I've heard of it, but I don't think I should bother.

yes u should wait, but if you dont want to I would drop the 9800xt most barely notice a difference from the 9800 pro 128mb card. As for keeping the intel, its your choice man, but amd has won the latest round in the processor war and they are a bit cheaper than the intel units. PCI express isn't going to perform any better for about the next year, but in terms of value and upgradability its probably worth the wait ;)

Also, my niece wants a notebook and I don't blame her, but now I gotta sell my old system. Any idea's on what I can get for this?

Specs:
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 OEM
Linksys LNE100TX EtherFast 10/100 PCI NIC with WOL 9

Acer 56X IDE CDRom
Maxtor 40 GB 7200 RPM ATA133

good work going with the athlon its better, but this guy is right the better chipset will be coming out soon ;)
Some peeps think giga makes the best boards evar, they are high quality. I just use ASUS b/c I have used them in the past and am always impressed with them. That and the fact that they are usually quite a bit cheaper then the giga boards.

The only problem is that there is ALLWAYS something else on the horizon and if I waited for the next bestest piece of hardware/software, I would never build anything! Hehe! BTW ep!c, I have ordered from NewEgg and got this MB instead of the GigaByte one:

60$ less and from what I have researched, a better over-all board.
