Because not every loadout is going to carry a blaster. THINK KNIGHTMARE, THINK! ;]

but why waste time making such a crappy weapon when they could of just place blasters on the map, or even have the blaster not take up a slot in SPer?

Heh I was browsing through the Mastabeta.com Forums (roundhouse's forum), and it seems like roundhouse really likes Tribes 1/2. Has he always been a Triber, or did he get converted after getting a dose or TW?

That's the Energy Blade. It's the (wimpy) default weapon in SP so that you are never without a weapon that you can use to kill somebody for ammo or something. It will take many hits to kill somebody with it, but you can at least use it to get more ammo and continue the level.

It will probably be in MP also, but only about as useful (perhaps less so) than the knife in CS.

reminds me of the Quake In Real Life video

/me grabs the nearest axe and makes a grunting sound while jumping.

to people thinking that they can just use the blaster instead... what if the person doesnt have the blaster? just limited ammo using guns? this kinfe does not use a weapon slot


p.s. I 100% vote against this in MP. (have it avail, to place into custom gametypes in the whole 'sandbox thing' but... not in the retail released gametypes plz)

Keep it in MP. Getting killed with a knife would be like getting killed with the T1 blaster.

Does the knife count as one of the 2 unknown weapons? I hope not. :|

Useless: nope, it allowed you to do all those things in that pettition thread.

Weapon: nope, it didn't cause damage to the enemy directly. I believe it was even listed under the heading "tools" in T1 INVs...

I'd rather not... HoF is tiresome enough without getting knifed from behind every time you aren't facing the way the capper is coming.

The blaster is a STRONG weapon. But, you won't want it to be found on every map. In addition, a player may toss his blaster for another weapon, the blaster will vanish, and then what the fudge is he supposed to do?

Lastly, the blaster is a MP weapon. You want the MP and SP experiences to be very similar. It's better than the blaster take up both a slot in SP and MP.

If you want a shazbotty default weapon, then both SP and MP need that shazbotty default weapon. The entire reason it's shazbotty is because its a default weapon and only nominally important to gameplay balance. It exists so that in SP or in MP duels or what have you, players never completely lose the ability to deal damage to their opponents.

The entire point of the knife is that it sucks, but is always there for the final emergency. It should be in MP. It's not like it will damage the game balance, and every once in a while, someone will get a knife kill, everyone will go "OMG LOL" and that'll be the end of that.

Why? I see no reason not to include it in MP. Especially considering SP and MP experiences should contain the exact same set of available tools. Heck, that's a reason it should be included: completion.

As long as it sucks as much ass as the blaster in T1 I'll be happy. If it gets beyond that strength, it's too powerful.
And at the very least there will be no blaster sniping...

I meant that as a weapon, it was useless, since the purpose of a weapon is to deal damage to enemies, and you can't debate the fact that it was very hard to kill someone with the TL. :)

I really dont liek the idea of having an extra melee weapon that doesnt take up a weapon slot in any tribes game.

no tribes game should have that in MP. reminds me too much of halflife and quake. (just keep it out of MP, ok? vgt)
