I am also wondering about the 3rd person view. I know in T1, it can be VERY cumbersome to play in 3rd person since u cant see the h-for/friend indicators. I am hoping this will be fixed in T:V for those that want to play in 3rd, and also, transparent player skins for 3rd person would be nice. Im not sure if you could make it in 3rd person only, but you do have a slight vis disadvantage in 3rd. Just another idea.
VaporTrail 03-23-2004, 05:24 AM I'd say the first problem with playing in 3rd person is the fact you can't AIM as well...
but hey, if you want to play semi-Max Payne style, be my guest.
Just don't extend the length of time the rest of us have to wait for T:V.
Plague 03-23-2004, 05:37 AM Third person just does not work in Tribes. Third person works in slower, foot-on-the-ground games, when you don't have to dodge projectiles manually, much less track their movements, as well as the movement of the enemy.
Tribble 03-23-2004, 05:39 AM I like to toggle between third person and first person frequently (I always thought it helped me ski better)
Amadeus 03-23-2004, 08:40 AM Option to automatically go in 3rd view when ski mode enabled?
hfingers 03-23-2004, 10:35 AM I have watched demo's of guys that play most of the game in 3rd person. I have also watched demo's of guys that switch back and forth constantly, like a nervous twitch or something. Quite annoying to watch.
Krytoss 03-23-2004, 11:53 AM im pretty sure there was a screenshot of a player in 3rd person with a reticle, but yeah, i hate 3rd as well. i dont understand how it helps anyone ski
[hAuS] C R A B 03-23-2004, 12:40 PM Anyone have a screenshot of a MA taken while in 3rd person?
Piata 03-23-2004, 01:58 PM I've hit a few MAs in third person :3
besides... they need 3rd person for vehicles. why not make it useable through out?
Zoolooman 03-23-2004, 02:45 PM Third person just does not work in Tribes. Third person works in slower, foot-on-the-ground games, when you don't have to dodge projectiles manually, much less track their movements, as well as the movement of the enemy.
We all use third person in indoor arena maps. You can see around corners and aim indirect grenades. :]
Morgoth_Bauglir 03-23-2004, 02:56 PM 3rd person view would be helpful as HOF, if you could aim properly...
JodoFett 03-23-2004, 09:03 PM I switch to 3rd person all of the time.
DeadlyRabbit 03-23-2004, 09:17 PM I change to 3rd person all the time, I use it a lot when I ski and deploying. I think if I kept track I would average 2-3 times every minute going to 3rd person and back again, it is assigned to my middle mouse button for quick use.
I never thought that it might be left out of T:V.
slogg 03-23-2004, 09:47 PM ive hit quite a few MA's in 3rd person
mainly because i still have a reticle when im in 3rd person
T-Funk 03-23-2004, 09:47 PM im switching back and forth constantly
it lets you be more aware of your surroundings
Blaze 03-23-2004, 10:53 PM How do you enable the 3rd person reticle?
Locke355 03-23-2004, 11:01 PM you dont need a reticle in 3rd person. just use the head.
Plague 03-24-2004, 01:31 AM I use 3rd person only when flying the Shrike, and when indoors so I can cheaply look around without actually pointing my eyes towards something. Something about piloting a Shrike in first person makes it a lot worse. It's probably that the view is a little smaller than the actual boundaries of the vehicle model, making precise flying a little trickier for some.
im switching back and forth constantly

Zoolooman 03-24-2004, 03:02 AM I actually like the fact that I can play the UT2K4 vehicles in 3rd person completely. They aim well and play well in the third person.
