Im just wondering if this will be possible since some skinning will be available. Not talking model replacement, just weapon skinning. Also not sure if you could classify a transparent weapon skin as cheating, but it would be nice so you could see more of the screen. Of course im sure thats sorta the reason for not having a transparent skin to begin with. This would also be nice for the 3rd person view.
PrinceVince 03-23-2004, 04:04 AM You can probably choose if you want to see the weapon in 1st person view, just like in t2.
THiNK2WiCEE 03-23-2004, 04:21 AM refer to tribes scripting and modifien... its there trust me
MojoBlue 03-23-2004, 10:55 AM posr,
Tribes2 has settings to not draw the weapon in 1st person view. You don't need a transparent skin just for that.
<---- did not know. Not a T2 player ;( so I only keep up with a little of the info concerning the game, mods, skinning, etc... and dont really apply any of it, since i dont have a copy and play the game.

Hopefully this continues with T:V :smokin:

Locke355 03-24-2004, 04:47 AM i used to always play q2 w/o a weapon model showing. i miss it so :(
i dont like not being able to see my equipped weapon, but i'd also like to not lose that portion of my screen
transparent weapons++
dunce_boy 03-24-2004, 12:31 PM im sure they'll have a hide weapon option.
As far as making certain parts transparent based on the skin, I doubt that will be available. That option needs to be done on the modeling level, and I doubt they will have that for their weapon models...as there isnt really a point to it. Usually you'd apply a transparency to a certain part of the model. For example, a helmet on a player model. Then, based on the skin, you could hide the helmet and just skow the face/head. Or make a visor 50% transparent, stuff like that. In most cases it doesnt apply to weapon models. You either show all or nothing.
I believe they will be allowing custom 1st person weapon models though, so you'll probablly see a lot of cool weapon replacements. I know i'll be making some. :D

Im pretty sure your wrong here, but I could be wrong. U should take a look at what they are doing over in the hudbot arena for T1. One guy, sorry dont remember your name but made a transparent weapon skin. And im guessing, could be wrong, but if he only made one area of that skin transparent, then only that one area would be transparent. So i dont think anything has to be done model wise.
dunce_boy 03-24-2004, 02:42 PM its a setting on the model...from there the skin controls whether it is transparent or not. Same sort of thing with bump maps. The skin is responsible for the bump mapping...but if it isnt supported by the model a bump map isnt going to do ya much good. :)
Tycho 03-24-2004, 03:28 PM holy crap, custom weapon models? How would the game police something like that? (eg to prevent happy rifle?)
I would love to see CS-esque model replacement, but only if it cant be abused

Cause your talking model replacement vs skinning. Two different things.

yea, um, thats the same thing dunce boy was talking about

There are two different models for each weapon... one is the low detail 3rd person weapon, the one you see other people carrying. The second model is the high detail 1st person model.
Games like ut2k3 allow custom weapon models for Both 1st and 3rd person models. In a game like tribes(big outdoor environments) that could cause some cheating by making Huge 3rd person weapon models. Allowing Only custom 1st person weapon models would be ok though....you'd just be dumb to make huge replacement weapons that take up all of your screen. :)
Im not positive that they will allow custom 1st person weapon models...but I think they said they would, but I dont see why they wouldnt.
I personally havent ever seen 1st, 3rd person models, so IDK wtf ur talking about. I only assume one model for each thing, not two seperate models for the same weapon. If someone can varify that, it would be nice. Anywho, I really dont think bumpmapping has a thing to do with it either. but could also be wrong on that end. If you can skin something with bumpmap or whatever, and its a particular file format that supports transparency, then you should be able to apply that to whatever part of the skin/model, if its supported by the game.

3rd person:

There is a huge difference, so I guess they use different model.
Oh, I just noticed. The finger of the BE are like: RRraawwwrrr, I'm gonna eat you ! :roller:
ok u give me screenshots of a game that isnt even beta yet. NO. Thats not proof. What i need are any current games that use 2 different models for different views, and what those file names are.
Thanks

so why not set the model to have the ability to be transparent, and then have a slider or switch (with a couple settengs) control how transparent the weapon is??
