Short 1-2sec freezes with Tribes1 + 2

I get weird freezes in both T1 and T2 (Not sure if in other games, because i basically only play T1 and T2). In T1 (I use stripped) i noticed that my pingmeter always jumps to "996", probably just because of the freeze. This started happening when i changed my 3d card from my old shitty GeForce2 MX PCI to first Radeon 8500 SE, and now GeForce4 Ti4800 128mb GS SE (Using 30.11 drivers, as newer NVIDIA drivers are usually meant for better than Ti-series cards). So it happened on both cards.. I don't recall changing anything else in my computer, except that i reformatted and reinstalled w2k. Now i reinstalled T2 after year or so and started playing cluster.. same problem. This doesn't happen frequently.. maybe once per map, MAX twice per map (haven't really counted, maybe never even twice per map.. )

system:

1.2GHz Thunderbird
MSI VIA chipset mobo
GeForce4 Ti4800 GS SE (overclocked to ~300/600MHz)
Onboard audio
768Mb PC133 RAM (Mobo doesn't support DDR)
512k ADSL (Freezes shouldn't be caused by connection either, it's not normal "redjack")

Of course it's possible that something simply locks the internet connection.. some auto-update shit or something, but shouldn't have anything like that running.

Apps running:

Winamp5 (swapping back to 2.8X soon tho, WA5 sucks cawk)
ZoneAlarm (Haven't caused problems before)
PowerStrip (Can't be it, didn't have it while had radeon.. )
AntiVir (i dunno really)

It just feels like my FPS would drop to 1 for couple seconds. It's very annoying because it stops skiing (if you have just grabbed it's no fun), also couple times it has happened exactly when i've grabbed and got comments like "nice wrap script", what was kinda funny, because the "warp" totally stops my speed. Uber cheat eh :X

edit: Can recall that i had C&C Generals for awhile, and no freezes with it, maybe it's indeed bandwidth issue.

Your drivers are old, even for your card. You could go up to around 44.03 at least. Have you tried closing all of those open programs you listed?

Are you on a Wireless router? 20 bucks says I know the solution if you are...

Nope, no wireless box.

About drivers: Shouldn't be the issue, besides they shouldn't add much performance, as the processor alone comes up as a bottleneck with my rig.

edit: About programs: Well like i said, at least ZoneAlarm can't be the thing. AntiVir shouldn't be either, If i recall correctly i've had it before changing cards (aka before problem came up). Could it be some gay WindowsUpdate stuff or something? O_o

Might there be some programs that would log the internet activity simple way, so i could check if there are any "hiccups" or certain programs connecting somewhere when the freeze happens?

Why are you using old drivers again?

Try changing your drivers. Newer ones might not improve your fps, but they may fix problems like this one. It doesn't hurt to try, does it?

That's true, but it's unlikely that it's drivers, because i had the same problem with Radeon (and tried tons of different drivers). Will try others ofc, have tried some already.

I had that problem when I didnt have enought ram on my old computer.
Is there any Harddrive activity when these lil lock ups happen?

Have you ever noticed in T1 that some players keep on moving the same direction they were before it froze, like when you redjack? If they freeze too, that means it's not an internet problem, but something with your computer.

No, that doesn't happen (Like while you are going linkdead). Whole screen simply freezes. Can't do anything. Usually it's only 1-2sec, but today got like 8sec freeze :/

And no, updating drivers didn't help, like i said earlier :x

edit: Yes, and i assumed it's something wrong with computer, but i simply can't figure WHAT :| It just started happening after format.

Yep, there is. And i can't be short on RAM :o usually 75% - 50% free even when running T1.. Not DDR tho, SDRAM. Could some memory stuff be fucked up?

edit: My HDD is bit fucked up, maybe it's because of that. But it has been fucked up for ages ;o before this started to happen.

Yes i do. Before format i didn't, and there were problems. But nevermind, the HDD is probably just breaking up. It's been fucking up for ages. Ordered new one already. This one is old pos anyways

disable antivirus and zonealarm [yes, even thought "it has never caused problems before"] only while you play and try again. and update your drivers.

Done, changed nothing. been doing that all the time, it's not so simple

"disable antivirus and zonealarm [yes, even thought "it has never caused problems before"] only while you play and try again. and update your drivers."

It's neither either.

Anyways, will be swapping HDD tomorrow, should fix it ( I assume it's my HDD because my HDD is like i said a) bit fucked up b) old. And even if it's not my HDD then, well, i got better HDD ;) )
