openGL vs software

Is there anyway to use openGL without the downfall of all the shadows and darkspots on the maps? I can increase my gamma all I want, but the dark spots on the map remain almost pitch black while everything else gets lighter. For instance, on dx map, if I'm standing on the shadowed side of the base I can't see the entrance.

yes, I agree, its just that when I play in openGL it makes it almost impossible to play on night maps like desert of death and adds some difficulty on other maps with lots of shadows.

you probably play on a really nice video card and just dont notice the difference, if u play on a ~64mb card, the difference is almost doubled.
