DwarfVader 02-25-2004, 04:19 PM This Thursday, Feburary 26th, WOFN (http://wofn.tribalwar.com/) is proud to speak with Viet_Vet. Many of you might recognize his name from the General Discussion forums where he asked for community help in trying to create an image including his son, who was kidnapped at a young age and turned up just recently, and his father, who passed away in a tragic accident.
Alchemist will be interviewing Viet_Vet to find out the whole story and figure out where things go from here. The community has been very interested in this story and we are pleased to be able to bring you in-depth coverage with a personal touch.
Check WOFN (http://wofn.tribalwar.com/) or #wofn in irc.dynamix.com for more details on the day of the cast.

alright well it's time to go home so here's the final version. More could be done to it to make it look photoreal but i have no patience for this shit. Viet: I'll send you the 300dpi version
Stage01 02-25-2004, 08:07 PM My condolences. I barely even knew my father, and to be completely sincere here , I too was kidnapped when I was young , twice. First by my father, he tried to run and get away, (dead beat) then my mom kidnapped me back, I had no idea what was going on, it was just a bad expereince, never saw my dad again. He didnt even show up to court to try and fight for me, that is what kills me the most. If I were him, and I had a chance to have a relationship with my father after all these years, I would jump at the chance. I wish you both the best of luck, and I couldnt begin to imagine the pain you went through.

Nice job man, but to be honest I'd go with Oh Hecks.
Viet_Vet 02-25-2004, 09:50 PM All of the picture are fantastic. I printed one out at work, and no one could believe they were PS'ed.
<3 to all the work so far.
Is anyone working on the pics of my son and I at current ages, and aging the pic of my father?
Thanks again to all.

I'll take the pepsi challenge against Oh Heck.
His was good but it was obvious he scaled up the right side of the boy's suit to make the fathers, and he also ignored some details such as changing the father and grandfathers ties to make them different.
mrturtle 02-25-2004, 11:43 PM much <3 man

Nice job.
The only two comments I would make is that 1) The guys fake hand is a little bit too big and 2) The arm fabric has too many crinkles going down the arm, I would smooth it out.
But if I didn't know it was a fake and wasn't looking for details, I would probably think it genuine on a glance. Very good job!

Wasn't aware this was a contest. You did a nice job, but you do need to rework VV's right arm. Looks entirely artificial. As far as the tie and the arm in my pic, both observations are true, but I did what I could with what limited time I have. And that isn't a whole lot. I question your motivation for doing this though, seeing as you don't have time for this 'shit', and you're willing to send VV a 300dpi version of a half ass done job. Take some time and touch it up. Then you can give yourself a pat on the back. Again, good job thus far.

its not a contest Oh Heck...
I was just defending my work, and the comment i made was about having no patience for photoreal work...
Of course i'm willing to send VV the 300 dpi version b/c thats the res i worked in and i figured he needed the higher res for print reasons. I don't feel my ps job was 'half assed' as you say, if anything atleast i took the time to make a new right side for the suit rather than just scaling up the boys and ending up with the pinstripes on one side being wider than the other side. Take a closer look at your own work before you start critiquing mine.
Minstrel 02-26-2004, 12:56 PM Ok boys. Lets chill out. Keep in mind the spirit of this undertaking.
Viet_Vet 02-26-2004, 01:59 PM I am not a proffessional photograper by any means, nor am I an art critic. I think that everyone has done a great job on the pics, and appreciate all the effort that each of you have put into it.
This is not a job that someone assigned to you at work. When I made my original post in this thread, I was hoping that at least one person would contact me and tell me they would do it for a reasonable price. Instead, the power of TW came out, and many of you hopped onboard to do this for me and my son for free. Although I am a part of this, and will treasure the final pics, framed on my desk, this is really about my son more than it is about me. I carry a picture of my father around with me in my head 24/7. My son never had a chance to meet him.
Everyone's work has it's own merit. I'm sure that we can even find fault in the work of DaVinci or Van Gogh if we look hard enough.
Please, don't let this turn into a pissing match. You all deserve tremendous credit, and I will always feel a debt of gratitude to each and every one of you.

Viet_Vet 02-26-2004, 08:57 PM Just wanted to let everyone know:
As soon as the WOFN interview is over, I will be posting the full story here on TW.
Question/Opinion -
Should I post it here in this thread, or make a new thread for the story?

[THE]Perrin 02-26-2004, 09:11 PM Keep it in this thread.
It's a beautiful thread, and if you don't read through it for the story.
You don't deserve to get the story.
