enDless_Delirium 02-20-2004, 10:36 PM Interpolate only makes a difference because so many idiots think that when they turn it off (though they have it backwards) their chain is exponentially better.
It has nothing to do with a fucking chaingun.
Am I thinking of the wrong thing, or doesn't it basically just turn off client-side prediction? So if you have a fast-bandwidth you're shooting at where the server is telling you the person is, not where your client THINKS he is.
Or am I totally wrong?
VaporTrail 02-20-2004, 10:37 PM Then explain it's popularity...
If it didn't work, or SEEM to work, why would anyone use it? Where there's smoke there's usually fire.
Apotheosis 02-20-2004, 10:38 PM Anything that automatically increases the skill of most of the users of it to greater than that of those who choose not to use it is IMO a cheat. Interpolate falls into that catagory. Unfortunately so do "ski scripts" for T1. However the difference falls into community acceptance. An overwhelming majority of the Tribes community accepts ski scripts, however it is nowhere near a majority accepting of interpolate. The majority that I've seen falls into the catagory "don't like it".
Well then you're using a subjective definition of cheat by... definition. The problem with using a subjective definition in a case such as this is that *anyone* can come out and say something to the effect of
"I don't like <a particular script> in <this game>. It is a cheat"
because they can make the "cheat" fall into any definition of cheat that they want.

That's exactly right.

Again, you're using "it" to refer to "interpolate off."
Consider replacing "interpolate off" with "ski script," and you can see that the logic you use still holds up.
...
I never said the chaingun was a balanced weapon. In fact I'll straight out say that I think the chaingun is an unbalanced weapon. I think a major reason why so many people chaingun so much is simply because the weapon is so powerful.
... and interpolate make them more effective chaingunners.
VaporTrail 02-20-2004, 10:44 PM That's just the problem...
Where DOES the line actually lie? Same problem was brought up for scripting... Mortar Waypointing scripts, all kinds of different stuff has been argued about.
Everyone will have thier own definition of what constitutes a cheat. However, when enough people agree it is, it's usually banned in competition.
enDless_Delirium 02-20-2004, 10:46 PM Then I gotta support the people saying it's not a cheat. It's basically just tweaking the game to make best use of your LPB-ness.
It doesn't tighten the spread of the bullets or anything, you just don't have to deal with your computer giving you wrong information to process.
Oh, and technically speaking to those saying ski.cs is cheating, it is, as it is exploiting a bug to gain an advantage that was not intended in the use of the game. The only thing is, the Devs realized it made the game a lot more fun so they left it in which I guess also kinda legitimizes it as not being a cheat. In which case ski.cs is just saving you from having to buy a keyboard a week :)

P Masta Flex 02-20-2004, 10:49 PM I had it working before this clean install, now I cant get it to work anymore : /
like it or not, it's here to stay. EVERYone is using it, and I noticed that before I did my clean install I could wipe the floor with anyone that went head to head in a chain battle with me, I need that back, having someone chain you to death is very frustraiting

Sounds like an addict needing his fix, complaining to his rehab counselor.

It's like being the only athlete in the olympics not using steriods, sure you can be proud that you did it on your own, but in the end you'll still probly go home without a medal
anyone have an idear why it isnt working?
Apotheosis 02-20-2004, 10:54 PM <post 68>
Alright, then your definition of cheat becomes "something a vocal community doesn't like in a game."
Correct me if I'm wrong.

EVERYone is NOT using it. If they were you wouldn't wipe the floor with anyone going head to head in a chain battle when you are using it.

wrong, it's rather easy to tell by the strait stream of chain fire coming right at you. I dont chain exclusivly, far from it, but when I need to break it out I want to use every tool available to me.
P Masta Flex 02-20-2004, 10:59 PM my autoexec.cs file

And this is why they have rules about that sort of thing.
However, since alot of gaming is done on the "honor system" and a lot of gamers (kinda irks me to call them that, but no other adjective comes to mind) are far from honorable, "everybody does it" becomes a prime excuse.
In the end, how you feel about achieving a goal is far more important than the goal itself. "Leetness from a checkbox" doesn't appeal to me.
GreeD 02-20-2004, 11:13 PM editActionMap("playMap.sae");

This only changes the value when your CG is out.... Maybe it will help.
GreeD 02-20-2004, 11:16 PM umm are we ever going to fix the code tag? :rawr:
Wulfen 02-20-2004, 11:23 PM You use Interpolate don't you?
How many top teams used it before it became publically available?
RegisteredFruit 02-20-2004, 11:57 PM This makes me agree with the people who say Tribes is dead... when people are willing to argue in support of the thing that's killing it.
Can't you fucks understand? IT RUINS TRIBES!
