Please do not let T:V be a UT2K4 mod..

Not that I think irrational will..

Recently I see comparisons all over the place of T:V and UT2k4. We talk of bombing run when talking about the ball mod. The problem is that the comparison at this point is pretty valid because of the information we have.

I want tribes, not unreal. I think its cool that its using the unreal engine I just don't like all the similarities in the gameplay. Aside from jetpacks the games seem similar.

Well, like it or not, there is much in common between Tribes and other games. Afterall, one fps will have alot in common with another fps simply on the fact that they are both fps games. So insofar as Tribes is an fps title with some single projectile slow reload weapons and some twitch weapons and little men that run around shooting at each other, it is like UT.

Don't fret though. I think much of the talk about similarity is finally because we don't know that much about vengeance yet. As we learn more there will be less and less to compare. At this point there isn't much to say, so if someone is going to write a piece about Vengeance, they will have to fill it out with all kinds of generalities that are common to all fps. As we learn more there will become evident more distinction.

Also, fal: If your pannies get wadded all with fear of Vengeance sucking, come down to UVALAN bar and I will unravel. :)

Actually, nothing but LoVe Fal. Thing is I have to whore. I've been playing t1 and t2 entirely too long to have such a low rating in this forum. I want to be able to bitch and have Marweas or whoever took over his catering job wipe my tears away just like the others. :)

T:V is using the Tribes Vengeance Engine (based on Unreal technology); therefore, it will not be a mod. Spending >2 years on changing an engine means that it isn't the same engine anymore.
I also agree with KillerOne. UT is copying Tribes all over the place. XMP is practically Tribes without jet packs or skiing.

XMP isn't tribes, it stole a few ideas but the underlying game is radically different

ut is copying every game out there

onslaught is alot like bf1942's conquest mode
all the vehicles in ut2k4 are a complete ripoff of the halo vehicles
give it jetpacks and call it BattlefieldHaloTribes2k4

T:V uses the following from UT:

The weapon engine, the physics for item dropping, and the base renderer.

Vehicles, dead bodied, and objects are handled by Havok

Player physics are custom


It shouldn't feel like unreal at all.

I'm not sure which gameplay elements are the same either that aren't common to almost all FPSs.

UT CTF is nothing like Tribes CTF. You can argue that Onslaught has similarities, but it ends there.

All these other games need is the Jetpack, and the rip off will be complete.

UT2K4 has ripped off so many things from other mods and games.
Link gun to take nodes and repair turrets is a rip off of the repair pack.
The little spider mines that chase people is a rip off from the Chaos mod for UT with the Proxy Mines.
Tribes had vehicles first, then Halo comes along and people say Halo had them first. Yeah, right.
