[T:V] Tourney mode and overtime

It would be nice to have overtime be a feature of tournament mode. It was a pain in the ass in T2 to play OT. Maps ends, you wait (forever) for the next map to load, then you wait (forever) again to load the OT map again to play it.

It would be slick if T:V has some semblence of over time. Whether you just get a message telling you you're in OT and next score (or however it's handled on a gametype basis) wins or it resets (without reloading) the map, like it's played now.

i dont know if you could do it like that ala bf1942 with the multiple rounds, but maybe if the scores were tied and it was in tourny mode have the server reload that same map?

Thing is, "tourney mode" could have different definitions from ladder to ladder. Some could play best of 3, some could play 2 with a sudden death OT map, some could play the same map, best of 3.

An admin command to "set next X maps" would probably be just as good. Perhaps more admin commands for "next map:Sudden Death mode" or other modes would be useful.

I'm hoping loading time will be better in T:V. It was hell in T2.

Automatic OT would be a really nice feature. I wonder how UGM will make it easy to do. Probaby just have to modify the script of the object that controls the scoreing.

If you're going to keep everyone ingame and just announce that you're in overtime now, please make it an optional thing. BEML doesn't use overtime except in very rare circumstances.

I'd like to see the ability to reset a map, without having to RELOAD the map.

Siege does this at halftime.. I dont' see why CTF can't do it (or any gametype for that matter).

I'm talking overtime on a map by map basis (ie it is tied 5-5 at the end of regulation), not the tie breaker map (3rd map).

overtime is definently a must imo, sudden death overtimes (or golden goal) are really intense to play. And UT2K4 has it so it is possible in T:V! (oh shit...)

But it was only tied because of TWL rules.

I assume however, T:V will ONLY count caps. :)

Yeah, I was making this assumption too. I'm not talking CTF either. More in general terms.

I think the game should continue at end of regulation time, but return both flags back to the bases, a siren goes off or something to signify overtime, and next cap wins.

This keeps the flow of the game going but ensures that the winning team must make a full flag grab/cap to win. This could also prevent those tie-turtle strats that occur from time to time.

Wow.. seems like a very simple idea.. Nice Vawlk. :)

(cept, the siren thing was kinda gay.. ;) )

Why not just have Tourney mode need an admin/vote to change the map?

That way, the game ends tied, you just load up and go at it again, next cap wins. If it's not, the teams just vote in/admin-in the next map for the match.

If I remember right, that's how it was done in Tribes 1, and it wasn't that hard.

And I prefer a map-reset to just announcing next cap wins, as that puts both teams on an even stand for the over time. I don't know of any sport that goes into over time without treating it like the beginning of a new round/period/quarter/etc.

Game ends tied, bases go back up, all deployed defenses go away, basically reset the map :)

Hockey doesn't.

The score is tied, certainly, and you start at center ice.. but any penalties that carry over are still in effect.

As far as having the admin do it.. it slows things down. If OT is automatic, it's far more fluid. Everyone is just forced to respawn, everything is reset, there's a 5 second countdown, and the game continues. I always hated going into OT, because it was like slamming on the brakes in a car. You're in a groove by the time the clock runs out, and all of a sudden of ends. It just doesn't feel right, and it can add a lot of extra time, because everyone has to click in, the clock time needs to be adjusted, the map needs to be changed, etc..

If something like this were to happen, Bases and players should also be returned/fully healed to give no advantages or a big rush right at the end of it to win quickly, it would be the equivilent of in football getting the ball where it was left without a kickoff or something

this would work ^^^
in bf, you can set the server to play any map, for any rotation.
kinda cool if they did that here

I'd like a halftime option, but I'm guessing it's going to be ignored nearly 100% of the time.

So why am I posting?

We just added more time to the clock, both teams always agreed.

Yes, but I said it's like the start of a new period, not a new game. In Hockey, if I get a 2:00 minor for high sticking in the last 30 seconds of the 1st period, I still have 1:30 left on it in the beginning of the second period.

However, in essence aside from rules violations being penalized, both teams start even again. Players are given a chance to rest, they get to talk with the coach for a strategy, they start in center ice. You don't start with your best defensive guy shoulder checked against the boards with the other team's top-scorer setting up to onetime the puck into your net.

I'm aware of that. Now the question is.. should you start that way? (shrug) It's a matter of opinion.
