Got Haggis? 02-15-2004, 09:44 PM will irc.dynamix.com be mentioned in the t:v manual? is it too early to ask this question, heh? Any plans for it at all for t:v? Just curious of new users will be expected to find it on their own, or if we can expect a huge influx of new faces on release day (integration into the game like in t1?)
Sp!nfusor Salad 02-15-2004, 09:45 PM I would hope so... still be kinda weird to explain why the dead company that spawned tribes remains as the hub of the community
Sir Lucius 02-15-2004, 09:49 PM My standing theroy is they'll use the same server, but also have a new name for it.
So irc.dynamix.com will still work, but they'll rename it irc.tribesvengeance.com (or something) and it will work as well.
destroyer193 02-15-2004, 10:27 PM irc.irrational.com :P

but is you certain they be keepin it
Sir Lucius 02-15-2004, 10:50 PM I figure since they already pay bytor, and a pre-exisiting community is resident on the server, they save money by recycling plus they keep everyone happy.
Zoolooman 02-15-2004, 11:10 PM The same IRC network can be accessed by a different domain thanks to the wonders of DNS.
irc.dynamix.com can be the same servers as irc.tribes.com (probably best possibility).
JodoFett 02-16-2004, 12:17 AM Yup.
sarro 02-16-2004, 12:44 AM Well me and some others are trying to direct traffic from the GameSurge irc server, aka the GamesNET + PGP server merge, to dynamix for tribes. Kinda hard to find dynamix if no one tells you...
(#tribes:vengeance)
Plasma 02-16-2004, 01:40 AM Aus/nz tribes players use our own server for local stuff @ irc.that.co.nz
So it differs between location :)
we euros use irc.quakenet.org

ZenTseTse 02-16-2004, 11:36 AM methinks an IRC interface from ingame would be nice (as long as there is a moderator)
im a mIRC user, but there is something powerful by allowing folks to build community from ingame.
if sierra is going to invest in this asset (irc.dynamix.com), then they oughta get their full money's worth from it.
sarro 02-16-2004, 12:35 PM I wonder if players will be able to receive messages from irc like in t2.
Gallium 02-16-2004, 12:49 PM wasting time on community features = t2
nothing more then the IRC from T1 is needed, and even that isnt really NEEDED compared to things like balanced play, and no bugs.
Gallium
Amadeus 02-16-2004, 12:56 PM Just make a 'community' menu where you can find useful links like TW, TWL and irc.RIP_Marweas.com :p
Mr_Unlucky 02-16-2004, 07:06 PM Newbie link to TW? Are you mad?
Plasma 02-17-2004, 02:57 AM Apparently the inbuilt irc thingo is a no :\
SaintDude 02-17-2004, 03:16 AM God I hope not. After the shitstorm that was included with T2 I just want a game. Let the community figure out wtf to go to get all chatty. If IG wants to point them in the right direction then post something up on the official T:V site or drop something in the manual. I just hope Sierra doesn't try to get all proactive on the IRC server. Imagine them trying to regulate IRC so we would all have to be nice to each other? heh
